Never knew that Lewis and Clark had a Harper's Ferry connection. The collapsible boat was a smart idea...too bad they did not have the fore site to research what natural materials would be available!

Meriwether Lewis had an idea for a collapsible boat. It work in the Potomic but failed miserably in the western and southern rivers. It was abandoned a little into hia adventure.

Meriwether Lewis replica boat exists because the Original was a Terrible Idea. Folks who Read the History of the Corps of Discovery will know of Lewis' visit to Harpers Ferry. A very good idea to have a Replica.

Go down to see the old armory display. This is another example of how history is interconnected. The Lewis and Clarke expedition had a boat they designed built at the arrmory that would later become the target of the John Brown raid.
