We went to Bayfield for a long weekend with the intent to see a show under the Big Tent. It was great fun and the venue could not be better for an intimate experience with the entertainers. Great for families, as well.

Nestled at the bottom of a ski hill, Big Top Chautauqua offers a distinctly festival-like feel. Surrounded on one side by the hill then open to wooded areas, grassy and sandy parking areas, Big Top really is a beautiful setting. The new tent is impressive! The indoor/outdoor feel having the tent walls rolled up is nice for the cooler fall evening concerts. The seating is comprised of old church pews with padding which adds to the charm on the venue. *PRO TIP: Try to get aisle seats if possible but don't sweat it if you can't. General admission includes BYO lawn chair seating areas as well as SRO options to the sides of the stage and outside the perimeter. Bar tents served tasty beverages and snack foods. The full bar always had long lines but they moved pretty quickly. The beer/wine only bar was always super quick and easy to get through. There was also a food truck serving up tacos, walking tacos, etc. - YUMMY! Toilet and port-a-potty options were many - you just have to look around a little as you walk in to see where they're located. Obviously, the closest restroom is the busiest but a few steps away you can find other options with little to no lines.

We made this one of our stops during our first trip to Bayfield. It did not disappoint. Music was very good. Planned our trip way too late to get reserved seating. We had a few people tell us they enjoy the grass area better anyway, so ended up doing that. Loved the family atmosphere. The only thing that was a downer was people standing between us and the tent. Security personel did nothing to remedy the issue. Staring at the back sides of a bunch of people only there to party/socialize is not worth the price of admission. That was our only complaint. We will definately go back when we visit bayfield next time.

Sometimes a great concert might influence how I feel about the facilities but I think that it is still an awesome place no matter who was performing. We recently saw Brandie Carlile who gave an amazing concert. We were on row ZB - last row before the bleachers and while we were sitting actually lower than the row in front of us and couldn’t see much but the sound was just amazing clear - the cool tent? Her voice? Who knows but we will go back because it is a cool, beautiful place with a great vibe.
