Great selection of fresh mochi with a variety of fillings, including their amazing strawberry and blueberry-filled mochis! Make sure to get there early to ensure you get the flavors you want as it does run out fast! Well worth the trip to this area!

Wow. I heard about this mochi place and was thinking how good could it be? Well, it's the best mochi I've ever had! My goodness. The mochi is so so soft! It's amazing! It's not too sweet and not too moist. It's perfect. Even after a couple of days the mochi is still amazing. I got a couple of flavors. Some traditional Red bean and mung bean filled mochi and a blueberry mochi. My favourite was the red bean mochi. Yum!

I love the sweet bean or fruit filled sticky rice cakes. I joined the tea ceremony club in Japan just to eat the sweets. The omochi/manju at Benkyodo are made fresh every morning and are so superior to the frozen ones I make do with normally.

The right hand side of the business is just a diner, where the locals seem to go for breakfast donuts and lunch sandwiches. The left side is where the good stuff is. The Mango mochi was new to me and very tasty, the traditional Yomogi, Kinako, Kuri manju, were perfect. Although all the manju were maybe 1/2 the price of what one might pay in Japan and 3 times the size.

I will go back to Japan Town again, just to go to this gem of a sweets shop.

This little shop is a Japantown treasure. Not only does it make handmade mochi fresh but they also make a fresh fruit mochi, like fresh strawberries or fresh mangos. They also make pink mochi with lima bean paste. They sell out so get there early.
