One of my favorite North Beach restaurants (Cafe Zoetrope) is in the Sentinel Building. As such, I very much like this bullding.

It is in the North Beach area. The Building also known as the Columbus Tower is a flatiron type building.

It survived the 1906 earthquake.

Wonderful photo opp with the pyramid in the background. A remember of a bygone era in building design. I walked to the area from Nobb Hill and it only took 12 mins.

We stopped and ate at Cafe Zoetrope while we were in the area and got a decent amount of pictures of the historic building too. Coppola had the building renovated and they did a wonderful job. It really pops.

This building has a history that dates to the time of the great earthquake. And, many famous people have occupied it, including comedians and musicians. The green color is caused by the chemical reaction of copper with the salt water environment. And, even though I am an engineer, I, too, learned something. In the aircraft industry, oxidation of steel is something to be highly avoided. Whereas, in the case of copper, the oxidation process actually provides a protective coating. It’s a very strange looking color for copper.

Well, actually it's not a place of interest at all:) But it's one of the most unexpected and attractive "view point" in San Francisco!!! Future and Past meet. The perfection of Geometry! The beauty of colors. I was just stuck there taking pictures. It has a Wow effect because you don't expect to have it:) There is a nice hotel right opposite the place(North Beach Hotel). And if you are lucky to have a corner room there on the top floor with huge windows you will enjoy this view right through them!
What more the place is very close to the shore and the piers! Don't miss!

We accidentally found the Sentinel Building while passing by it on an architectural tour. Columbus Tower, also known as the Sentinel Building, is a mixed-used building in San Francisco completed in 1907. Construction was begun before the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. The framing survived the disaster, and the building was completed in 1907. Francis Ford Coppola purchased the building and has his office there today. The building is now an official landmark.

Sentinel Building (also known as Columbus Tower) in San Francisco is a flat iron architecture design building. I like the distinctive look of this building on the street. Its nice either day or night with its distinctive copper-green exterior. It has had an interesting story with the Coppola family coming to its rescue to save it. Today, we can taste their very good wine and enjoy the reasonably priced Italian dinners there at the restaurant called Cafe Zoetrope on the first floor of the Sentinel Building.

San Francisco's version of a flatiron building, right on Market Street. It's way more interesting than most of the modern office buildings downtown.

In a country where 1 in 3 names is of Italian heritage it’s had to find a real Italian expresso.
We were first drawn in the the coffee smell and the sound of the expresso machine. Thank you thank you!
