Neighborhood: Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.

Unique (and cheap) theatre experience
Jan 2018 • Couples
No performance of Neofuturists is ever the same, so you don't really know what you are going to get, but here is the concept: the troupe writes 2 minute skits based on their own lives (it has to be true, that is part of the concept). Some are funny musings on tv shows or films, some are quite poignant (the night we went, one was about someone coming out to an unsupportive family member), and some are educational (one was about cryptocurrency). The audience calls out the number of the skit they want to see, and the troupe performs as many from the "menu" as it can get through in an hour. The concept is unique, and I always find them interesting. Plus, it's a lot more interactive than most theatre and quite affordable (tickets are $11-$16 based on $10 plus whatever number you roll on a dice). The theatre is walkable from Union Square so an easy activity to add on to your trip!

The best way to spend a Friday or Saturday night in SF

We are lucky to have The Infinite Wrench in SF. Raw, honest, real, creative, and consistently funny, it's basically a guaranteed good time. It's also extremely affordable. Go experience it and you'll find you'll be telling all your friends about it for weeks after.

My favorite recurring show in SF!

I love these shows! I've been ~10 times over the past 3 years and I'm amazed how the talented ensemble is able to keep creating such unique, clever and thoughtful plays. The SF Neo-Futurists also do a wonderful job of involving the audience and are respectful of varying comfort levels. (i.e., I don't want to go on stage, but some people love it, and the performers know the difference)

I've brought many friends and I would highly recommend The Infinite Wrench to anyone even mildly interested in alternative theater or just want something fun and different to do in SF!

A great show!

If you're looking for an offbeat, wacky, weird, and very san francisco show, this is a great find. 30 plays are performed in about an hour, so things move quickly from poignant to comic. A unique find in the city!

Very San Francisco!
May 2014 • Friends
Having seen and loved the Neofuturists in Chicago, we came to the San Francisco version. The experience is really similar-- you enter, roll the die to determine how much you'll pay, get a silly nametag, and sit down. Then, the usual drill of 30 plays in 60 minutes (though they only did 28 our night... so close!)

A lot of the plays are really great and really fun, but I have to say this version of the show is much much more esoteric than the Chicago version. It's much more performance art-y, rather than the Chicago show where the plays, though short, do tell stories with clear purposes, and which are more recognizably comedy or drama. This one is a very San Francisco experience, which is great if you're expecting and hoping for that... I may be too straitlaced, but I still think I prefer the plays with a more apparent message or at least a more directly conveyed feeling.
