Nice Place for a Walk - Stern Gove, San Francisco, CA
Jun 2020
We went to Sigmund Stern Grove, which is a nice place for a walk. There are nice trees. We have gone to concerts there in the past; this summer it has been cancelled due to the virus.

SF Symphony and Stern Grove Festival
Jul 2019 • Couples
Back to Sigmund Stern Grove after decades away from SF, where I was born and raised. And a great treat in having the San Francisco Symphony. Great performances of Mendelssohn, Elgar (with a guest contralto), Tschaikovksy (Marche Slav), and Muggorsky, plus the usual encode. Packed with people including kids. Overcast and cool.

Come early to get a good view during this summer festival.

Best dog park,
Dec 2018 • Friends
This is my regular goto off leash dog park. Very large area for dogs to run, pond in the rear of park with a trail around it. Trails that lead out to various streets in the neighborhood. Free Sunday concert series during summer. Best to avoid dawn and duck here as coyotes to have dens here. Of all the off leash dog parks I’ve been to, including other states, this is hands down the best.

Ancient Grove of Trees for Fabulous Wedding
Aug 2018 • Family
The wedding was outdoors and breathtakingly beautiful. Adjoining is the Trocadero Clubhouse for the sit down dinner reception and dancing. Fabulous and magical venue for nature lover. And a beautiful place for a stroll.

Free 2018 Concert Series
Jun 2018 • Friends
Was here on Sunday, June 17 for the Jeffery Osborn and Peabo Bryson show. Perfect weather and excellent show--they both sound soooo good! Beautiful woodsy venue, but not very ADA friendly. They only had one shuttle to take people with mobility limitation to and from the concert/seating area. Leaving was a slow and painful process. People with wheel chairs, walking canes, the elderly and various other mobility issues( i have a bulging disc) had wait at least a hour for the 1 shuttle. Eventually and thankfully, the 2 ambulances that were there starting helping out by taking a people up the hill to their rides. I was in severe pain by the time I got in the abulance. Otherwise, I had a great time. They really need to work on ADA logistics.

Beautiful place for a concert!
Jun 2018
Free concerts at beautiful Stern Grove? Yes please! Nestled among the eucalyptus trees is Stern Grove - what an amazing place to see a concert! Seating is on a first come, first served basis, and you may end up in the dirt under the trees, or on a log. Bring a tarp or a blanket and be careful. Fantastic sound system, too. Buy food or beverages there, or bring your own. Chill vibe and well organized.

A geen peaceful island in the city
Jun 2017
This place is a jewel! It provides an opportunity for an escape from the city, a place to walk, jog, & meander thru a forrest made up of redwood & eucalyptus trees. There are as well as a couple of meadows and a lake where turtles & ducks & fish swim. This is all rimmed by a canyon.
In the summer months there are free summer concerts this year is the 80+ years this has been going on. There are some top named artists who sing, dance, play music & San Francisco Ballet & Symphony play here too. Throughout the summer it is the site for a kids day camp where they're taught archery and other outdoor skills by high school aged counselors. This then not only gives urban young kids a place to learn & to be safe but also gives high schoolers a chance to work helping others. Part of one of the meadows is a dedicated dog play area which is used throughout the year. The charming Victorian house which can be rented as a venue for special occasions is also used throughout the year.
This place appeals to many for it's accessibility due to it's being close to many bus & streetcars. It also has two parking lots for cars.

Great free summer concerts!
Jun 2017 • Solo
Today was the opening day of the 80th season at Stern Grove. These FREE concerts run from the beginning to end of summer. Today was Kool & The Gang and it was great fun! Lots of cool people in a beautiful setting.

If you're going, be sure to be here early - definitely by noon. It can get pretty crowded, but that's part of the fun. Make new friends and take in some new music.

Concerts start about 2pm. Check their website for lineups and schedules.

Annual free outdoor concerts
Aug 2016 • Friends
I am not sure if this was by design, but it seems like this cool outdoor concert venue is kept only to locals. I was lucky enough to have lived in the city, and i attended this annual two months long free concert.
It was one of those "organic" events that make San Francisco appeals to visitors and local alike.
Bring your own cooler filled with your lunch and beverages, a warm blanket and (maybe a binoculars) and you set to go. The events are always free, but donations to keep this events going is greatly appreciated. The first come first stake is in order. You get in, find your spot and spread your blanket and enjoy the free concert. Or just hang out with amazing acoustic of "background music" while catching up with your friends and family.
Wearing a comfortable pair of shoes is a must, coz sometimes you have to climb higher to get a spot. Get the schedule from their website to see if your favourite band happen to be playing at one of the concerts. They play on Sundays.
To get to the open amphitheater you have to walk downhill for few minutes to the meadow. Yes you will have to hike back up after the concert :)
However, last time i attended, they provided shuttle that will the take the elderly and people with disability up to the street level.
This was one of my favourite things to do and not doing it enough while i can. If you happened to visit San Francisco and want something different than usual touristy stuff, try this, definitely.
