About
This is your backstage pass to the coolest area in the universe! Stroll through the cosmic history of it all, from rock’n roll to art, fashion and architecture, this fantastic walking adventure gives you real insight into the cosmic draw of the Haight-Ashbury! The tour is approximately 60% hippy history and 40% general neighborhood history and architecture, but it is always 100% ‘far-out’ fun! Saunter along the same streets that Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Joni Mitchell and countless others etched their marks into the collective alternative culture and creativity of the 20th century! Approximately 12 blocks, final destination 2 blocks from the point of origin. A poetic and symbolic act of retracing the footsteps of so many, returning with greater understanding and heightened consciousness. For groups of 6 or more ask about custom dates and times.

One of the best neighborhoods in San Francisco by day. Hippy shops all over the streets, good atmosphere. At night I do not recommend it since the day we went we had a few beers and at night it gives a little scare

Pam was a fantastic tour guide! Ask for her. She has lived in the Haight for 50 years and has had so many experiences before and after the Summer of Love and so many years after that. She made this tour so much fun.

My husband and I had such a wonderful time on our walking tour with Pam! She is a fount of knowledge and we really enjoyed her insight into Haight-Ashbury’s psychedelic history. The tour was a perfect distance and pace— Pam stopped often along the way so you could really listen and absorb what she shared. It was also neat to be the only two on the tour (Tuesday morning), so we were able to ask questions and interact more easily than what you’d typically expect of a guided tour! Pam is a great representative of the neighborhood and its community-driven values. She was a celebrity on the streets :)

Stan is a history buff and a student of the Counterculture who has lived and worked in the Haight for four decades and has become a neighborhood institution. He has both an encyclopedic and workingman’s knowledge of the Haight’s history and culture and loves sharing it.
In short, this is what every neighborhood walking tour should be.

We spent a very enjoyable and insightful couple of hours with tour guide Stan Flourride wandering round the back streets of Haight Ashbury soaking up the amazing history and counter culture of the area. Stan was very well informed and a great historian who was willing to share his knowledge. Highly recommend this tour.

The tour gave us a whole new insight into the Haight Ashbury neighborhood. Stan is a gifted storyteller. He shares his great knowledge of historical aspects of hippie culture generously and with many witty punch lines. We highly recommend the tour. Stan, thank you so much!!!

Stan Fluoride! An actual national treasure. We had so much fun on this tour, he is a walking encyclopedia (so much so we even found a clip of him on “Who wants to be a Millionaire”) and he knows just about everything and everyone in and about the Haight Ashbury neighborhood. The tour was humorous, informative, and damn entertaining, highly recommended! I felt bad for the zombies being driven around in their big impersonal tour buses as we had our own personal escort taking us up close and personal with some of the most important landmarks of the summer of love.
Thanks Stan!
Thanks Stan!

Very informative. One of the best tours we took on our visit. Our guide was so good that it kind of made you feel like you were there hanging out with a friend that knew everything about the neighborhood. Learned a lot of information I wasn't expecting. Enjoyed it so much.

Pam who leads this tour is a long time resident and politically active citizen of SF. Her perspective is so special having lived through the Summer of Love. Her stories are amazing as they come from a real life hippie! And she even brings you into her beautiful home in the heart of HA. So refreshing.

This is a walking tour, of what San Francisco and the people were like, back in the days. The tour guide was friendly, had lots of information. The only problem was that the order of the tour and information given were often not in order, jumping over the place and back and forth, so it was a bit hard to keep track during parts of the tour. The structure of the tour would benefit from some re-organizing. I would happy to recommend this tour to anyone above the age of 35 or maybe 30.

Izu, she gone, is she.... I am so sad and broken! can you tell me please what happened and how to honor her,
thank you
Written March 7, 2020
I guess the best way to honor her is recommend and remind the walking tour. I took it recently for a second time in 15 years, now with Stan and he’s also such a nice guy, informed, historian and who has been living in the quarters for several decades, he knows everything, everywhere and everyone.Let’s remember all the good times we have had with the tour both guides and us tourists. .

I did this tour about a month ago and it went for about 2 hours. The guide was very willing to answer any questions and took the time to let me take it all in so I got the impression that the timeframe is pretty relaxed.

Hi, we are travelling from the UK and want to book this tour on 10th August. There are 2 of us, can I book it and pay in cash as the on line booking system isn't secure from here? Thanks, Kim

Hello,
You should be able to pay on the spot in cash. It isn't a very formal set up.

Good morning. We are a party of four and wish to attend this walking tour on Tuesday. How do I arrange this with you, please?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I am very curious about the tour. How much does it cost per person? Do you have yours available today? What time? Where?
Written October 15, 2017
Hello and apologies I missed this 9 days ago when you asked.
It is $20/person and not sure which day you actually wrote but we DO go each Tuesday & Saturday at 10:30am and Friday @ 2pm, unless on the rare occasion we have not met our minimum.
Best, Pam

I took the tour back in May. I just checked my receipt and it was $21.20. We met by the McDonald's by the Stanyan Park Hotel. 750 Stayan St. In Haight Ashbury. I think it cost about 6-8 bucks to take Uber from Bart, as I was staying in Berkley. I travelled from Florida and didn't know the area at all but had no problems. There is no close BART station fyi. The tour was well worth it and I have recommended it before. Stan Flouride was our tour guide, he was knowledgable (lived in the area), funny and overall entertaining. They have a minimun for people attending to do the tour but we were a small group and had no issue. For 20.00 you can't beat it.

Sounds very interesting. What is the tour schedule for this week Wednesday through Friday? Cost for 2? Would we meet up at the corner of Haight and Ashbury? We are staying by Union Square.
Thanks,
John
