This is a nice plaza; nothing special....what makes it nice is....
1) Street vendors
2) "F" Line Railway (the old, restored street cars)
3) Proximity to everything else (Ferry Building; Embarcadero)
Need not be a place for you to visit, but pleasant to walk through.
FYI: Harry Bridges (July 28, 1901–March 30, 1990) was an Australian-born American union leader, in the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), which he helped form and led for over 40 years. He was prosecuted by the U.S. government during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. His conviction by a federal jury for having lied about his Communist Party membership was overturned by the Supreme Court in 1953.
California Governor Gray Davis declared July 28, 2001, Bridges' 100th birthday, as "Harry Bridges Day". On the same day, the City of San Francisco dedicated a plaza in Bridges' honor.

This is an amazing meeting point and public hang out in San Francisco. You can come here almost anytime during the day and find skaters and skateboarders. This is the start point for the Friday night Skate. Keep an eye on the kids but Del enjoy watching it. Don't let the kids walk freely through the skaters or skateboarders, or they will get run over. Gil also smell plenty of weed in the air. You'll find illegal drinking in public also. But, if you keep the kids on a close leash this is definitely a place for families to see as well as locals and foreigners to come people watch and have fun.
I'm sure this Square really aggravates the local police, and I can understand why. It's a major pedestrian Thorofare for those going from Market Street and the BART system over to the ferry building.
