Can’t comment on the shop per say as I was quick in and out - it looked pretty standard though. BSC accommodated me for a personalized all-day mountain bike experience in the Santa Cruz area and it was fantastic! Alex was an excellent guide and seems very knowledgable in terms of the trails and found me different options tailored to my own skill level and preferences. Rented a more-or-less new Yeti SB5 and it was awesome. This is no clunker rental, these are very well tuned elite level bikes. It was treat to rip some trails on such a gorgeous bike. Overall, no complaints and nothing but positive memories! The tours are not cheap, but I think good value for what you get. A full day of riding with a guide and an elite bike rental should cost at least $300, in my opinion. If it seems expensive I’m sure you can rent some crappy entry-level bike somewhere and get a trail map thrown in, but you won’t have anywhere close to as memorable an experience. If you’re looking to really treat yourself to an experience you’ll remember for years, and stories you can tell your buddies back wherever you’re from; rent a Yeti and take a guided MTB tour with Big Swinging’ Cycles. Alex is a super chill dude and a great guide. I really enjoyed riding with him. Steve Vancouver BC

I cannot say enough glowing things about Big Swingin' Cycles in San Francisco. Many things set them apart but one thing you notice right away is that they genuinely respect and appreciate each customer is different and comes looking for a new bike, or repairs, with different expectations. At Big Swingin' they actually take as much time as you have got to understand your needs and wishes. Say you are looking for a new bike, do you live in the city and want a bike for weekends to cruise GG Park or to ride across the bridge or do you live to ride Three Bears before work three times a week? Or maybe you are looking for a killer mountain bike. You NEVER got any sense they try to up-sale you. Undoubtedly they make more margin on the expensive bikes but on my many visits and demo rides with them I observed again and again them recommending the bike that made the most sense for the customer's needs. The long lost art of small business integrity. The Summer of 2014 I decided to purchase a new mountain bike. I knew I wanted a twenty-niner mountain bike and a friend wouldn't let me buy one until I checked out Big Swingin'. They sell some awesome mountain bikes (Yeti, Niner, Rocky Mountain). I worked with the owner Brian and Master Mechanic, Charlie. Brian and Charlie, both ride extensively, really helped me zero in on what I wanted in a new bike, how and where I most like to ride, and what I liked and disliked about the bikes I had demoed at other stores. Long story short, I ended up purchasing a Yeti SB95 from them. I ended up having some issues with gouged paint that Yeti headquarters in Colorado washed their hands of but Brian worked with me and made it 100% right. Super stand up guy and shop. Need service, from a flat tire to a custom gearing or set-up, those guys will get it done right. Make no mistake their mechanics are king of the mountain. If Charlie can't sort it out it's not sortable. Every time I drop my bike off for service or a tune up it comes back a perfectly working dream machine. On top of everything else, the folks who work there are just good, nice, likable guys. People and customers, understandably, just stop by to shoot the sh_t about bikes, trails, components, beer, or bike movies. These guys are the real deal. 5/5

Hired a nice road bike from Big Swingin' Cycles. Thought my old cycling shoes would fit the Look pedals on the bike but ran into difficulties. The guys at Big Swingin sorted me out with new shoes plates at no cost and in double-quick time. So I had an incredible ride in wonderful scenery with thanks to their superb service.

Great choice for guided riding in SFO. Shorter day 1 out to Fairfax area & birthplace of mountain biking. Tamarancho is the new Mt Tam. Brian knows the area well. Fun riding with a couple of interesting rocky sections & nice flow trail. Enjoyed riding on well set-up Yeti ASRc. Longer day 2 south to Santa Cruz and Soquel demonstration forest. Couple of long but easy climbs. Fun along ridge trail. Flow trail down one of the longest I've ridden and leaves a smile on your face. Climb up and then down Braille - more old school and even more fun. Alex led the way and the Yeti SB 4.5C was awesome to ride. If you want a custom mountain bike trip in SFO get hold of these guys.

I was traveling to SF with the family on holidays, but being an avid mountain biker and also wanting to experience riding singletrack, I did some research on who could provide the guided service the area. I ended up deciding to do it with Big Swinging Cycles and I’m super glad I did. They delivered exactly what I was looking for and what they had offered…. in other words a fair deal. My first concern was getting the right bike with the right set up for the type of riding… I rode with them 4 times in one week, twice on a Niner and two more on a Yeti, both high-end full suspension, carbon bikes, perfectly maintained and with the exact set up. Location is very important; they are in the heart of San Francisco, very close to the Hotel where I was staying in downtown. This was key for me, because being from out of the country you want as little hassle as possible and just be able to enjoy your riding. I was guided by A. Gibson, who understood perfectly well what I was looking for, my level of riding skills and therefore I ended up enjoying custom made rides. The singletrack was amazing, had beautiful views, good prices and no lost time. I did both: half and full day rides. Excellent experience & highly recommended.
