Steer Clear - Total Dump!
Aug 2020
We were looking to something to do to kill some time the evening before our flight home. We had found this park online, and it looked like an interesting location on the map. What a mistake.

We go there and I don't even bother stopping the vehicle, let alone get out and venture. There are homeless people, trashed scattered everywhere. Assumed to be drug deals and others planning their next heist. I have more interest hiking landfill in the middle of July.

Amazing Potential

...,but a bit third-world-like.

The park is just beyond the dirt mound that used to be Candlestick Park stadium. The bay views from park are great. Parking is easy, and there are even picnic tables. The park is a little sad and a lot in disrepair.

Maybe interesting for tourists that want and sight that's off the beaten path. There are some cool photo spots for selfies in front of old Candlestick Park signs.

Outdoor Hidden Gem

They really need to repave the roads getting to and around the park areas. I have heard this referred to as California's 1st Urban State recreation area and in the next 3-4 years it will be one of only two camping locations inside the San Francisco City limits.

I am so happy to have discovered this area and it has plenty of parking near the Jack Rabbit location. Bathrooms were decent, but I recommend packing a small hand sanitizer to utilize.

We are in the midst of reshaping and building the park area up a bit for the future campgrounds in Jack Rabbit location.. be careful around the work areas.

Enjoy the beautiful sites and views! Perfect place to sneak away and have a private picnic or date retreat of just reading beside the water without driving too far.

Enjoy!

Great except traffic

Wonderful place for history. Usually on the cool side so dress with that in mind. We found taking our lunch and hanging out was the best.

a free/ state park right in the city- fishing, walks and picnic areas.
Forget about the stadium, here you enjoy the outdoors without driving far. Trails abounds with some right by the bay. Watch people fish or do some birdwatching. Saw a family getting ready for reunion - it's first come reservation. Bring your group for BBQ or your partner for a romantic picnic. Although not staffed saw workers cleaning restrooms and picking out garbage!
