We participated in this tour with our 16 year old son, and guess what? We, including our son, had a great time. Linda Lee was funny, knowledgeable, engaging, entertaining, and by the end of the tour I felt like she was a family friend. We learned so much about Chinatown. We visited a Buddhist temple, a grocery, a fortune cookie... More

Dear VCinNOLA: What I appreciate so much about this review is that not only did the three of you enjoy the tour, you enjoyed what I enjoy about each and every tour that I conduct: Sitting down in a QUIET restaurant so that we can dine and socialize easily, and then share stories of family, culture, work, and lifestyles with... My friend and I found Linda Lee to be very knowledgeable about Chinatown. She is a native and had interesting anecdotes with specific examples of a true Chinese experience. There is an optional dim sum lunch which was good. San Francisco is bustling with people and some uneven sidewalks and hills on this tour. If you have balance problems, this... More

Dear Saavy Traveler: Thank you so much for your detailed response about your tour experience. I especially appreciate your advice about uneven sidewalks and hills on the tour. The walk is leisurely, mostly flat, with stops along the way to visit different sites. Throughout the 33 years that I have conducted this tour, I have had guests with crutches, wheelchairs,... More

We did not have the normal guide on our tour due to a family emergency. Our guide was knowledgeable. Our group of 10 worked our way through Chinatown learning it's rich history as well as details about how people live in Chinatown today. We visited a temple, the markets, an herbal pharmacy, the park, a fortune cookie factory and finally... More

My wife and I have often visited Chinatown, but this was the first time we took a tour. The All About Chinatown Tour was great, and our guide was informative and a pleasure to be around. We visited little shops on tiny allies - places you would never see on your own. Anyone can walk through Chinatown, but if you... More

From start to finish, this was an incredible experience. Linda is an extraordinarily dynamic tour guide that kept the entire group engaged throughout--no small feat considering that half of the group consisted of 7th & 8th grade girl scouts! There was loads of interesting historical information, a fascinating overview of Chinese medicine, some compelling personal anecdotes, and so much more.... More

I was on the same tour with the Girl Scouts, and it was absolutely wonderful! Lots of history and culture were included in each of the different stops. Linda does a great job – she’s very knowledgeable, entertaining and engaging. We had a large group, and she remembered everyone’s name and where they were from after our initial introductions –... Wonderful sense of humor, excellent presentation and the dim sum lunch YUMMY! I took a group of 7th grade Girl Scouts with three adults and every one of them was happy we took the time... More

This was an awesome field trip! I took about 20 middle school (7th and 8th grade) students on a tour of Chinatown. The tour was the perfect length to hold their interest (1.5 hours). We made a great number of stops and saw a wide array of sites including murals, a temple, the fortune cookie factory, and many shops. Our... More

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments about your visit. I am thrilled that you enjoyed your tour with Alan Fong. He is a perfect host to showcase Chinatown's culture and history with his extensive knowledge along with his personal experiences as a native of Chinatown. It's a challenge to teach and entertain middle school students but... More

I always try to purchase a guided tour when traveling because you get so much more information and context than just looking and walking around on your own. Ms. Linda's tour was an amazing experience. My 11 and 6 year just loved the tour and Ms. Linda. She is very kid friendly. She took our small group to places that... More

Not worth the time or money. Boring stops. Guide gave very little historical info. Walked through a couple of alleys. Walked through a grocery store. Given little info. Very disappointing.

Thank you for taking the time to write us with your honest feedback. On every tour, we start with information about how and why the Chinese came to America, and what Chinatown is like today as a community. Next are visits to an herbal pharmacy, a historic landmark known for its unique business and architecture, and then wind through several... More

Neighborhood Profile
As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighborhood decorated with colorful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighborhood.
