I visited here as a teen on my very first trip to San Francisco and totally fell in love with its wild beauty. During my grad school days, I escaped to walk it's windswept trails and stare out at the vast ocean that stretched all the way to Japan.

Now when I visit, I stay at the Seal Rock Inn so I can marvel at the sounds of hooting owls, foghorns and the sea.

This past trip was my first return post Covid. The views are unchanged, but the shuttered Cliff House made me sad. The beauty of nature made up for it, though, and I look forward to a return.

This was my first stop in SF, and it served well as an intro to a time well spent in the city.

The park was beautiful, quiet and lively with many people taking their dogs.for walks.

It overlooked the Pacific to the west, the Ocean beach to it's south and the Sutro Baths and Land's end trail to the north. Large, but not oversize park.

In my way to Cliff house/ Lands End trail, I accidentally came across this park. 1 or 2 stars came to mind. It has ver steep steps lead you to through Forest and then the actual park itself.
I was presently surprised and raise the stars as I hiked up to the top. The I saw the views and small wall fortress on the peak, I went up there the stars went to 5. This is a gem on a sunny day with blue sky. It’s so tranquil not many people here and you can hear the wave crashing and feel breeze blowing and see the sun ray reflecting off the ocean. Wow what a nice feeling. What a majestic panoramic view of Pacific Ocean. I just had my packed lunch (it was delicious) and now I am going to film a short video and want share this amazing little park.

You can drive or take bus 5 (to the end) to get here. Big Two thumbs up for this little park.

Don’t let the gate across the entrance on Point Lobos fool you -- that’s to keep cars out, not pedestrians. I was a little concerned it’d be too empty for a woman walking alone, but there are volunteer gardeners working there, people walking their dogs, joggers, etc. It's not crowded, but it's not empty, either. Walk up the stairs to the Parapet; there are benches there and you can see the City laid out like a map, and the ocean and the beach. Walk around the paths, take it slow and appreciate the view.

After visiting Sutro Baths, (different review) we decided to walk uphill a bit farther to visit Sutro Heights Park. The walk was easy and the park was clean. On the day of our visit, numerous families were there with children riding their bicycles. The paths were wide, so we had no problem walking past the kids. Some of the paths were not paved but they were very smooth for easy walking.
Walking to the south side of the park we sat at one of the benches and could see all of ocean beach and both of the windmills at the west end of Golden Gate Park.
Very peaceful park with well placed benches for watching the views.

See the edge of the world. View the ruins of the largest bath house on the West Coast, get there easily by bike, car, bus. Wear sunscreen for wind and sun, you can burn in the SF fog too. Bring a jacket, wear layers.

This is one of my favorite spots in the city. Gorgeous ocean beach views and super quiet. We just had my son's 11th birthday party and regardless of the fog and breeze, the kids spent hours playing capture the flag and running around. The only thing to consider is that for bathroom you have to walk to the Sutro's new Lookout building across the Point Lobos road, so give yourself sometime.

A new find for me in San Francisco. I had visited the Sutro Baths but didn't know there was a beautiful park nearby. This used to be the grounds of Sutro's home and botanical gardens. There are very nice views with seating areas and walking paths. Not accessible for autos or handicap. You can easily park at the new (and very nice) visitors center called "Lands End Lookout" and hike up to the park. Dog walking allowed.

Sutro Heights Park is a small getaway from the hustle of busy San Francisco. Its located high above the cliffs over the Pacific Ocean. The views go on & on! To the South ,the views (on a clear day), you will get to see the whole San Francisco coastline along the Pacific Ocean & beyond to the Coastal Mountain Range between Pacifica & Montara ,Ca. To the North, the views are of the beautiful Marin County Headlands and the beginning of the San Francisco Bay as it heads to the Golden Gate Bridge. The park itself is well spaced out, with wide walking paths and loads of history! It was once, the private estate of Aldoph Sutro , 1830- 1898. A man of many talents, a mining engineer,a real estate baron in San Francisco, 2 term Mayor of S.F., owner of the Cliff House & attractions like the Sutro Saltwater Baths. His house & great library , green house, and lush gardens where once all included in the area that is now the park. There are small photo stands at each building site that give a brief description of what was once there, when Mr.Sutro lived there. The grand driveway from the entrance on Point Lobos is still well maintained & evident of Victorian Splendor. Be sure to bring a sweater or coat, as the winds pick up as the day progresses. Enjoy the views!

The West Coast begins here. What used to be an Early to mid-1900's tourist area now is riddled with apartments, condos, native California Cypress trees, (thank God). The memory one retains is the expanse and the image of the Pacific Ocean shaking hands with the 2nd most beautiful city in the world. It's free to enjoy! Parking is free, the scene is free, the history is free. Get in your auto rental and spend part of your day in this place. become a San Franciscan. Drop into Seal Rock Inn restaurant. Ask Aileen about "the city that knows how". Bring your kids here to plant that lifetime memory.
