Kathy who led the tour had a wealth of knowledge of the Castro and it's history. She's also clearly a big contributor to the local community judging by the number of people who said hello as the tour progressed. This is a great way to learn the history of the Castro, a slice of the equal rights history and an... More

I have been on a lot of tours and Kathy was the first that felt more like a friend you were hanging out with rather than a tour guide. The tour was informative and emotional for me and my father who is gay and raised me in Texas during a time when it was still very taboo. We felt a... More

I almost forgot I had booked it n rushed to get to Harvey Milk Plaza for the 9am start but Kathy waited with the tour group & then continued the tour with such passion & interest in the subject. I teared up listening to the stories & seeing the different spots that she stopped & shared her vast knowledge. She... More

Kathy Amendola is a fun, informative tour guide on this walking tour of The Castro. From city history to neighborhood history, Kathy is a great source of information. She makes the tour fun and educational. If you have children, Kathy does provide a warning that this tour might not be for them. When I am in San Francisco again, I... More

We very much enjoyed the Castro walking tour. We found Kathy very friendly and knowledgeable. We learned allot about LGBTQ history and it was also interesting to hear the experiences of the other people on the tour. I would recommend the tour to anyone, not only LGBTQ visitors to San Fran. I thought it was my favourite part of our... More

Highly recommended and one of my top pics in SF. A great insight into the life of Harvey Milk and his journey for LGBT rights.

This tour really opened my eyes to the history and the struggle of the Castro. Harvey Milk, along with countless others, paved the way for our freedom today. We still have a long way to go, but this tour was an inspiration that no contribution is too small and we all can make a difference. The Castro is such a... More

Simply put, I joined Trip Advisor so I could give this tour five stars... that's how much I'm recommending it. The walking tour was unlike any tour I've been on before. It's around 2 hours so you take you really take your time taking in the surroundings. The tour guide Kathy is fun, friendly and above all else, extremely knowledgeable... More

Neighborhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighborhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighborhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theaters and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
