Address
Neighborhood: Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighborhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.

What a selection!
Jul 2021 • Couples
We were in the Golden Gate Park and realized Amoeba was next door so we visited. Wow this place has everything from CDs to vinyl to movies to action figures and posters. Vinyl collectors will be in heaven with this immense selection. Definitely a go to spot for that hard to find album or movie.

Been waiting to visit for over a year

This place is mind boggling! They have vinyl, CD’s, DVD’s, posters, books, turntables…..you name it. The store is huge! If you can’t find it here, you probably didn’t need it. Just know, there are No drinks or backpacks allowed inside. You have to leave those at the front desk. Also, if you are accompanying someone and need a place to sit; seats (3) come at a premium. A place everyone should experience at least once.

Heaven for audiophiles
Jul 2021 • Family
As a music lover, this place is Heaven. Just like the record stores of the old days, only better and bigger.

Amoeba has such a deep selection of options for all music lovers…from indie, punk, jazz, classical, metal, classic rock, and more. And they have all music in all formats…vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and DVDs. Also, plenty of other music related items for sale, including retro posters, art, clothing and books.

The workers are very knowledgeable and helpful. They also have an info center where they can look up items on their computer to see if they have it in stock.

My teenage kids and I felt like kids in a candy shop. We spent over an hour in there looking around, and easily could have spent all day checking out their deep inventory of great music and deep cuts.

Most vinyl cost about $20, while CDs were reasonably priced, particularly the used music. This is pretty standard pricing these days. What’s not standard is the depth of their available music, particularly underground artists.

If you are a music lover, you have to check this place out!

A must for all collectors of anything this was my second trip to this branch – also did the bigger branch in Los Angeles in 2014. It is a bit like a small airport hanger with rows and rows of CDs new and second-hand and of course now rows and rows of Vinyl, - I have been there done Vinyl so need to stick with CDs due to space. Great place to hang out at for hours if you are as I am happy to troll through rows of CDs in the hope that you find a gem.

Audiophiles Wanted Here!
Aug 2019
Amoeba Music in San Francisco's Haight Ashbury district claims to be the largest independent music store in the world. From the selection of cds, dvds, vinyl, t-shirts, posters and movie dvds it might just be so. There are even books in this former bowling alley! I didn't get out of there with my son without a bag full of things. Great place for music devotee whether rock, jazz, classical, Brasilian, and on and on. It's plenty of fun!

Nice atmosphere (though the music played over the loud speaker is a bit loud.) and nice employees. I bought 2 pins while here. Great selection! You'll find what you're looking for here and more. They also have posters, pins, books & more.

What a brilliant music store catering for all tastes and genres. Step inside to a music wonderland where the staff are so helpful and knowledgable. Vinyl, Cd's, DVD's, and cassette tapes and yet there is more. Rare vinyls can be found.

Almost has it all
Jul 2018 • Family
Placed at the end of Haight St. Amoeba is definitely worth a visit if you like music in any way and form. The people that work there are extremely knowledgeable on different fields of music so you are almost sure to get help from somebody who knows more on whatever music style you are into.
I love the place and happy that that I went. Also visited the "mother store" in La and it has the same vibe.

The right place for Music lovers
Mar 2019 • Friends
It has been the second time now that I was here. And again I went out of this place with way more then I planed to buy. They have CD, DVD, BluRay, all forms of records, Cassettes and 8-Track. Beside of that books, posters, pins, patches and all sort of other memorabilia.
It might be unusual, but easy to understand that you have to leave your bags at the entrance and no food is allowed inside.
Plan in a good bit of time as you will figure out that there is plenty of music to brows through and you will remember "This one song from this strange band." that you suddenly want to look for and likely find.
