Book lovers beware: You will not leave this place without buying a book or bookish item, and why shouldn't you? A great indie bookstore awaits with reasonable pricing and a good selection.

Haight Street is a little like Glebe (Inner City suburb of Sydney, Australia). And this bookshop reminds me of Glebe Books so it was like being back home again. Go in and explore. 1985

While on vacation, our family makes it a point to seek out at least one local, independent bookstore and browse their shelves for a few hours. In San Francisco during spring break, we did our research and decided to make the trek to Booksmith in...More

As week-long visitors (from Ireland) to San Francisco, we read about this Bookstore in one of the local Newspapers, and, as Book Lovers (+ believers in the importance of keeping Bookstores alive), we said, if we can, we should visit and buy. So, we scheduled...More

Another great SF bookstore. Lots of fiction from other countries, some I've been looking for for a long time. Great stop! Lots of books bought and sent home.

While browsing this lovely shop yesterday we looked up to see another patron, dressed only in a baseball hat and a sock (use your imagination) enter the store. Now, having seen a lot in SF over our visit, I believe we can now say we've...More

Love the personal reviews all over the store on the shelves. Friendly staff and open late. Will definitely go back.

This is a perfect bookstore: not too large, not too small, not too radical, not too straight, friendly to all ages. Great staff with great taste. And a perfect escape from the touristy Haight.

Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and
Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of
the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage
clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops.
While the Summer of Love ended decades ago,
Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of
hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through
its streets can still feel like stepping back in time.
