Molly puts on a great tour of Chinatown! Interesting historic facts, attention to our personal needs and questions, a wonderful stroll through many 'unusual' spots in Chinatown, she even walked us to a great lunch spot after the tour was done. We loved it!! We highly recommend it to all newcomers and tourists. Great fun was had by all!

I took the China Town tour and it was fantastic! Molly was a great tour guide. The monument in Portsmith Square to Robert Louis Stevension was particularly moving. This was where he spent a lot of time.I also liked the architectural descriptions by Molly and the old Chinese Theatre and the stories of Orson Wells there. It is a great tour that has... I did the North Beach tour with Natasha back in March. It was a really, really great tour. It was super informative and Natasha really knew her stuff, she answered all of our questions without any problems. It was really fun to walk around San Fran with a local; every two steps Natasha gave us another recommendation for food/coffee/fun/whatever! I... More

I have lived in the Bay Area for 17 years and know San Francisco pretty well. Discover walks really opened my eyes to the colorful history of San Francisco. I went on the North Beach, which was terrific fun. Evan did a great job of making the tour entertaining while hitting on much of the history of Barbary Coast that... More

What a fantastic experience. We took the North Beach tour and had the best time. I'm a native to the Bay Area and rarely get to be a "tourist" in my own town. This was a special treat and well worth it! I can't wait to do the Chinatown tour and will recommend this to all my neighbors and out... More

The brochure we picked up in our hotel said no booking, no fixed fee, just turn up at the stated place and time and look for the guide in orange. So simple. And it was brilliant. We and two other couples met Jesse and he took us round Chinatown for nearly two hours, showing us places and telling us things... More

I highly recommend Discover Walks - I joined for two free (though please tip the guides) tours yesterday and learned a ton from my very knowledgeable and friendly guide Evan. He explained this history of the Barbary Coast region with interesting stories about how the region has changed over the years. For the Fisherman's Wharf tour in the afternoon, I... More

I loved this tour! I was visiting San Francisco with my 13 year old son and we both had a blast with Discover Walks. I still can't believe it's free. Our guide was pretty funny and kept us entertained the whole time- which is not easy to do with my son (he's usually plugged into the games on his phone).... More

My friend and I picked up a brochure which said Discover Walks "Free" tip-supported - so we decided to give it a try. Natasha greeted us at Transamerica Pyramid and as we were the only ones who showed up on Sunday - we got this wonderful private tour - could hear everything, could ask questions, could detour if wanted or... You should definitely do these tours. We saw other tour groups that were much larger, cost $, and they didn't look like they were having any fun. Why these tours are free, I am not quite sure. So, tip well. Jesse is a great tour guide. He quickly became a friend. He recommended great places to eat lunch and grab... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
