The Detour App is offered in limited cities. I went on 2 walking tours in San Francisco. This was an informative and interesting tour which shared the history of Harvey Milk and the gay history of SF. The GPS in the program slows down if you walk too slowly. The other tour was the Beat Generation. That didn't go as... More

Took the WildSanFrancisco Walking Tour with J Jo on July 23,2015, thru Haight-Ashbury. A great way to see that part of the city, and be entertained with facts and songs of the 60's! Highly recommend it!

There are many free walking tours of places in San Francisco. We took the one of the Fairmont Hotel. Our guide was a life-long resident of San Francisco and really knew her stuff. We were taken to all parts of the hotel and told all the history. Plenty of time for questions.

I suggest buying the book by Adah Bakalinsky then walking one of the 31 walks she has in her book first put out in 1967, It's a great way to see San Francisco and get away from the tourist spots.

Barbara, our volunteer tour guide, was just fantastic. She took us through Little Italy and China Town, provided delectable samples of the local food delicacies and generally entertained and informed us for 2+ hours. With 13 other guests, we enjoyed an intimate view of the history and attractions of this intriguing area of San Francisco. From the Beatnik areas of... More

Our tour guide was very informative and walked at a leisurely pace to ensure the group didn't tire. Very informative and shows a genuine interest in China Town's history.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7/6/14 Cupcake Tour This was an excellent Tour! We walked around market street from shop to shop, tasting all sorts of cupcakes and our tour guide Michaelangelo was very knowledgeable, original and entertaining, while giving us background information about cupcakes and their history. He used different dialects and accents that fit regions the samples originated from. I highly recommend... More

We did the chocolate walking tour. It was a nice tour but unfortunately there were people in our group who lagged around in the shops and made it a longer walk time then predicted. I don't suggest going on sundays because one of the shops planned is closed ( they did add another) and another seemed to have opened just... More

Discover Walks put on a customized tour for our Australian school students that told of gold rushes, lost fortunes, military ports and chocolate factories. Our guide, Madeline, kept forty, already footsore, teenagers engaged and asking her questions. She modified her spiel for the age of her audience, and entertained them for over 90 minutes. Great value for $90, as it... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
