I read the reviews and saw the common theme was an over crowded boat. I find that surprising as our boat, the "Kitty Kat" was sold out. Yes we had to walk on a dock...to get to the boat...that was in the water...to watch sea life... not sure why that was previously complained about however, my family and I had no issues. Even though the boat may have been a little crowded everyone was very pleasant and would allow folks room to see. My one gripe was when we bought our tickets through Viatar the directions said meet at the pier at the gate. We went there and, thankfully, decided to walk around because we saw no one else ready to take the excursion. We actually had to trade our voucher for tickets at the booth which was a little ways away from the entrance gate. As other reviews pointed out, there is alot of sea life to be seen and there's alot of sea life not to be seen. Unfortunately, the Kitty Kat has no control over what surfaces and what doesn't. We were fortunate enough to see a humpback cruising around. We were more fortunate that the staff having superior knowledge of sea life and were great guides for our trip.

We had a very good trip in the bay and we were lucky as well! We saw at least 4 whales passing by the boat. One of them came very close to our bot and we could spot her very closely. We enjoyed a good trip and the weather was good.

We booked this trip after finding it on trip advisor. I figured we'd see some sea life but no whales, Once the boat was half-way across the bay, we saw some harbor porpoises, which are toothed whales. From that point forward, I was still skeptical about seeing bigger whales. Once far out in the Pacific, a spout was spotted, then another, and yet another. We saw three humpback whales feeding fairly close to shore but not the boat, so a good zoom lens or binoculars were helpful. We waited in this spot for a good 30 minutes before heading back to shore. The crew was friendly, and the naturalist spoke on the loudspeaker the entire trip, giving us details about the Bay, the Pacific, and the sea life. My only complaint was that once we saw the humpbacks, no one moved from their spot, so if you couldn't see, you didn't get to see the whales. It would have been nice if the captain had turned the boat so everyone had an equal chance to see, take pictures, etc. Whether you see any whales on your trip really depends on time of year, day, and the animals! It's not an expensive trip, so I think it was worth taking the chance, At the very least, you get a guided nature tour.

Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. It was amazing to go under the Golden Gate Bridge and out to sea. We saw pelicans, birds, and several whale spouts. Bring rain gear and layers as you may get wet.

I wish they would have called this a SF Bay boat tour and not set expectations to see whales. It was beautiful and the crew were fantastic - worth it just for the cruise.
