The Real SF Tour offers 4 incredible tours merging sightseeing and trekking...

The Real SF Tour offers 4 incredible tours merging sightseeing and trekking with public transit for the most authentic visitor experience in San Francisco. Part urban adventure, part urban trek, and totally green, The Real SF Tours take you where no other tours can go. You’ll visit enchanted gardens, secret stairways, glorious rooftop views, and some of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods. You’ll be avoiding large crowds of tourists while experiencing the real culture of San Francisco and learning about its rich and storied history. You’ll traverse the city on Cable Cars, Light Rail, and City Buses. You must be able to walk 4 separate uphill 1.5 block sections, there are a total of 6 uphill flights of stairs, and 15 downhill flights of stairs, spread throughout the day. The day encompasses over 5 miles of walking including short uphill sections and hidden stairways that most people find extremely enjoyable. If you do not walk regularly this tour may be more challenging than enjoyable. If you have any difficulty going up and downstairs we do not recommend this tour. Please only wear comfortable closed toe walking shoes. Tours run daily departing from the California St Cable Car turnaround.

I had only 2 days to see SF and doing this tour was a great way to see a lot quickly. The pace was good, not too fast but no hanging around waiting either. Our guide was friendly and helpful. We covered a lot of ground, walking and going on buses and trams. We got a taste of life in... More

Our guide was Nessa/Vanessa. Great knowledgeable guide who had worked a good time as a guide. Lots of 'hidden' lookouts over the bay area. Great if you are just spending a couple of days in SF. Our group were just 8 people, so it was no problem to ask questions. Tour covers the key areas of SF and includes tickets... More

A real bonus for me is you can maximise your time. The planning and transportation is done, so you can just enjoy the sights. The guide was friendly and informative. If you take the original tour, you could do Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate, Alcatraz yourselves.

We had an amazing time and had the perfect weather. It's better than a bus tour because you can actually walk around and go in buildings and see places and its good exercise. You get to go on the cable car, muni buses and BART which are included in the price on the trip. You get free fortune cookie and chocolate sample... The tour begins in the Financial District on a cable car, and continues through so many locations. From the Real SF website, some of what you will see: Chinatown; Barbary Coast; North Beach; Macondray Lane; Lombard Street; SF Art Institute; Ghirardelli Square; Marina District; Pacific Heights; Painted Ladies NOPA; Castro District;and the Mission District. You are given a transit pass... More

Can't recommend this tour more highly. Had a great day with Chris and really felt like we'd seen the real SF. Chris was so knowledgeable and his love of the city shone through throughout the day. Great use of all forms of public transport to cover so much of the city. Thanks Chris.

We love tours that give you the inside scoop, background, history, and current cool things about any place. This tour completely fit the bill for SF. We saw all the things we had heard were worth seeing, and many that we had never heard of. It was a full day of walking and taking every type of mass transit in... More

We had a great day with The Real S.F. Tour today! Katya was our guide and did a fantastic job. The write-up is correct...lots (and lots) of walking, but also a good mix of using public transportation (bus, muni, Bart, cable car (one-time)). We walked about 6-7 miles...some uphills, but really not as bad as I was expecting. We used... More

This walking tour incorporated everything that the city has to offer, Chris our tour guide who was a 'local' had lots of great information about the history of the city, being a small group made the tour even better, we experienced all modes of transport! Knowing the city so well, Chris knew when and where to pick up the transport... More

We travel extensively and I can honestly say, my husband and I just experienced the best tour we have ever been on. If you want to be total immersed into the The REAL San Francisco; not the typical "touristly" version viewed from a red bus, you must take this tour! Chris, the owner, who our group was lucky enough to... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
