The Real SF Tour offers 4 incredible tours merging sightseeing and trekking...

The Real SF Tour offers 4 incredible tours merging sightseeing and trekking with public transit for the most authentic visitor experience in San Francisco. Part urban adventure, part urban trek, and totally green, The Real SF Tours take you where no other tours can go. You’ll visit enchanted gardens, secret stairways, glorious rooftop views, and some of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods. You’ll be avoiding large crowds of tourists while experiencing the real culture of San Francisco and learning about its rich and storied history. You’ll traverse the city on Cable Cars, Light Rail, and City Buses. You must be able to walk 4 separate uphill 1.5 block sections, there are a total of 6 uphill flights of stairs, and 15 downhill flights of stairs, spread throughout the day. The day encompasses over 5 miles of walking including short uphill sections and hidden stairways that most people find extremely enjoyable. If you do not walk regularly this tour may be more challenging than enjoyable. If you have any difficulty going up and downstairs we do not recommend this tour. Please only wear comfortable closed toe walking shoes. Tours run daily departing from the California St Cable Car turnaround.

I can't tell you how much we enjoyed this tour. Our friend Alicia blew us off and we could not be more thankful because it lead us to this tour. Chris was amazing! We learned mor.e about the city than most natives could tell us. Fluent use of mass transit gave the tour a down home feel. Strongly recommend!

This is a great way to experience San Francisco if you're open to mingling with locals and walking. We met Chris at 830am and he whisked us through many neighborhoods by transit (trolly, bus, subway) and foot. He was knowledgable and spoke about city history and the significance of neighborhoods, buildings, and people. I enjoyed the walk through Haight and... More

We enjoy walking tours and wanted something more insightful than just a regular sightseeing tour. This was a full day tour which involved walking up and down (mostly down) some steep hills, and we took the cable cars, buses and subway to get to different parts of the city. Robin took us down alleyways and side streets and gave us... More

This tour was a strenuous workout after 11 days cruising the Pacific Coast. Our group was all cruise passengers who signed up together. It helped that we were all in the more senior age range as we travelled up and down the hills and stairs around the city. I had been to San Francisco a couple times before, but only... More

We met Katya at the cable car terminal at 9:30 downtown. She took us everywhere we were supposed to go as per the tour outline. She was great as a host for the city of San Francisco. Chinatown, The Conservatory, and Lombard Street were some of my favorite. My wife loved the cable car ride, the beach and the green... More

This was a great tour to introduce me to the city. We got to see some of the classic items as well as a couple interesting sites I had never heard of. I liked that we used public transit. Make sure to bring good walking shoes.

This was a fascinating tour!! We had 3 more days in town, so we started with the tour in order to get the lay of the land. Our guide, Kevin was so incredibly knowledgeable and was a perfect fit for what we wanted to accomplish. We traveled to and learned about places that we never would have thought of to... More

This is absolutely the number one thing my husband and I did on our recent nine day visit to California. We did this our first full day in the city and were glad we did. Our tour guide Robin was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and overall a terrific guide to spend the day with. This is a long... More

Be prepared to walk lots, but this is a wonderful tour using lots of transit as well. The provided transit pass made it easy for everyone to get on. We started with a fun ride on the California cable car line, exiting in Chinatown. The combination of walking and transit was very efficient. Katya was a really good guide providing... More

We had a great time led by our guide Kevin, a native of San Fran. He knew so much with unique insights (like I went to school here etc). He had a great manner and made the trip a great investment. The other guests (a couple from Denver) were also great, making for a cracking time. It's 15-20k steps, so... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
