The area
Neighborhood: Union Square
Originally home to rallies supporting the Union Army in the Civil War, this grand square has become the city's premier shopping and entertainment district containing the largest number of upscale department stores, chic boutiques, art galleries and theaters in the city. It's a large open area where tourists and locals gather, watch cable cars and crowds go by, enjoy a snack, or plan their day of shopping and sightseeing, If feeling the pulsating energy of the city is on your agenda, Union Square is the place to soak it in.

Blowing a Raspberry to the Rrazz Room
Mar 2013 • Solo
I eagerly looked forward to the Rrazz Room's move to 1000 Van Ness (a classic building on old Auto Row in SF) and the opening night performance of Patti Lupone. While the venue itself on the mezzanine level was beautiful the service was atrocious. Let's count the ways. (1) There are two adjoining stairways from the ground to mezzanine level. Access for the disabled or those in need is apparently not a consideration. (2) Unlike the elegant seating at the Hotel Nikko there are cafeteria-like tables and cheap folding chairs crammed on the floor: I witnessed constant complaints by those trying to be seated and removing empty chairs by the staff didn't help the poor room set-up. (3) Don't come hungry or thirsty. You will wait up to half an hour to place a food or drink order. I certainly did. (4) You may be told in the middle of a performance that your drink selection was not available. In the dark. With no menu. So you have no viable options but to accept your server's judgement on "another Cab". I certainly did. (5) You may wait an hour for your second choice of drink to arrive. I certainly did. (6) You may never get the food you ordered. When asking about the appetizer I ordered with my drink, the server told me that she "supposed" she could take it off the bill. Was I upset about that dismissive approach? You know the answer to that. (7) If you always wanted to wait until the encore to get your meal (like my seatmates) or your 2nd drink, this venue is so right for you. (8) Given the horrific level of service, you may feel justified in leaving exactly one cent as a "gratuity" for your useless server. I certainly did.

Nice space if you can find it
Aug 2012 • Solo
Buried deep within the Hotel Nikko is San Francisco's premier jazz and cabaret space. You will find everything you expect - good sightlines, good sound, overpriced drinks, great entertainment

Best jazz club in SF
Dec 2012 • Couples
Great jazz/blues in an intimate environment. However, they are moving 5 blocks away to the old Cadilac building on Van Ness.

Classy Jazz
Sep 2012 • Friends
First time in San Fran and we wanted to listen to some classic Jazz, we got there about 20 min late the music was great and the energy in there is fantastic also the venue is very classy its in a actual hotel. The one thing that was not good was food it was really pricy and the mains where the size of entrees it was very disappointing and drinks where extremely pricy. But overall it was good.

Never disappoints. Always entertains!
Dec 2012 • Business
An intimate spot to enjoy cabaret singers and more. The drinks are generous and well-prepared (two-drink minimum at the show), and there's a nice seletion of appetizers and small meals, so getting there a bit early before the show gets you good seating and eating. The welcome is always charming and efficient, and the wait staff very pleasant and does their job as unobtrusively as can be given that they need to serve during a perfromance and weave among the tables. A great, not-too-late evening in San Francisco awaits!

Great club!
Nov 2012 • Couples
Smaller venue with all seats really good. Sound was super! Two drink minimum but they bring one at a time so ice doesn't melt. Reasonable prices and snack/dessert menu available. We had a great time.

A real Cabaret - style Musical Offerings of entertainers--mostly singers--
Oct 2012 • Friends
This is an authentic nightclub that features music--mostly Jazz and The American Songbook tunes--good food, 2-drink minimum, but they are nice about it! The location is great--1 block from the Powell St. Bart Stn. in the Hotel Nikko. I go to Goldstar.com to find out who is featured.
I have never had a bad experience there, and I often bring out-of -town guests there to WOW them...and they keep the decibels down--no ear-splitting tortures. I recommend it highly.

Great little place to see a concert
Sep 2012 • Couples
First, the negative - we had to wait in line for a very long time to get in and get seated. When I bought the tickets for the show (in advance), I was instructed to arrive no later than 7:15 pm to be seated for a 7:30 pm show. It's a very small venue and thus I was surprised about the long wait. I guess they were running late getting everything set up. Hopefully this was a one-time problem. Once we were seated, things went smoothly. The showroom is very intimate, so you have a great view from wherever you are seated. We saw a performance by Jonathan Poretz, who has a terrific voice and sings Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Burt Bacharach and all of those great old standards. Very entertaining, we loved it. It was definitely an older crowd. I'm 38 and was likely the youngest member of the audience.

Catch Bud E Luv band here!
Apr 2012 • Couples
So glad the SF club tradition is going forward at the Rrazz Room! Many great name acts all the time, including the local "Bud E Luv" band on occasion! Much fun, and the Hotel Nikko is easy to get to.

Saw the Tommy Igoe Band
Jul 2012 • Couples
We listened to the Tommy Igoe band, and they were great! The Rrazz Room is located in the Hotel Nikko. It is a small venue. Great atmosphere, two drink minimum, and we were not blown out of the room by the sound system.
