I live in San Francisco and attend the opera frequently. The house itself is truly a beautiful, glorious building having been carefully restored to its original 1932 glory after the 1989 earthquake. The handicap access, restrooms, and general access have improved greatly. Two things of...More

Beautiful building. Staff was helpful and friendly. Sets were amazing. Closed out the evening with Christmas music. They let people in after the production had begun. This was distracting. Gift shop had wonderful souvenirs.

What a beautiful old hall, redone a few decades ago. Very special to be there and see a performance. The only problem is that the incline is not as great as in many newer halls - making it easier to get around, harder to see...More

An attractive facade with lovely Beaux-Arts and Classical features was our first glimpse of this fine building. We were delighted to attend a great opera performance during our visit. The auditorium is highly decorative and has outstanding acoustics, perfect for the world class presentations. It...More

Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.

Row D will be very close to the stage. You'll be looking up a bit. Row O will be back further and look more straight onto the stage. Hope that helps.

That I don't know. In the group I signed up for, there were between 10 and 15 people, if I remember right. If you want to pursue it further, you may search for SFOpera backstage tours
