An attractive facade with lovely Beaux-Arts and Classical features was our first glimpse of this fine building. We were delighted to attend a great opera performance during our visit. The auditorium is highly decorative and has outstanding acoustics, perfect for the world class presentations. It...More

This was our first visit to this beautiful venue. We had won a bid at a fund raiser to attend and watch a performance of Tosca. We were given seats about mid-way back in the Orchestra section and could see and hear very well. It...More

Attended a superb performance of Tosca--the performance was stellar but the Opera House itself was a strong feature by itself. What an outstanding jewel of a facility you folks in San Francisco have. This is miles ahead of the Blaisdell Concert Hall we have in...More

This is where the Opera performs, as well as the venue for the Ballet. The seats are not always comfortable and the temperature can be stuffy, leading to massive sleeping through performances.

I came to see Program 02- Bright fast cool blue, with coreographies by Balanchine, Millepied and Peck. I was in the Dress Circle -raw K- and had a great experience. I could see the stage very well, a bit far maybe so I'd recommend to...More

Party of 5 going to a matinee showing, was told we were not allowed to have our daughter at the show. The staff were rude and unapologetic about it, and told us no refunds. The usher said we could sit in the family section and...More

I experienced the Opera two ways, through a tour and attending a performance. Wow to both! The building itself is beautiful with historical significance but the performances offer the magic of sitting in a beautiful theater with talented orchestra, dancers, and vocalists dazzling you with...More

My son and I had a short layover in San Fransisco, and decided to visit the War Memorial Opera House, not for the opera, but for it's UN related history and WW1 memorial. We took a BART train from the San Fransisco Airport to the...More

The box seats are individual padded chairs with a lot more padding than the seats in the orchestra section (where I even once took an inflatable cushion). However, there are three rows, on tiers which are about 7 to 8 inches higher than the row...More

Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things
government and performance-related in the city.
Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to
one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz
center offer year round entertainment within the
shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold
tipped dome of City Hall.

Row D will be very close to the stage. You'll be looking up a bit. Row O will be back further and look more straight onto the stage. Hope that helps.

That I don't know. In the group I signed up for, there were between 10 and 15 people, if I remember right. If you want to pursue it further, you may search for SFOpera backstage tours
