Toronado is the perfect beer bar. There is no other way to describe it. The focus is solely on the beer (bring your own food plus a great jukebox are both pluses) and their list is amazing. I was lucky enough to stop by during a Russian River tap takeover and was thrilled to enjoy multiple beers from Russian River... More

Possibly the most crowded bar I have ever been in - which can only mean it's good. HUGE menu of beer choices - you are guaranteed to find something you like. And when you get hungry, try the sausage restaurant next door (they have vegetarian sausage too!). On top of the extensive beer list - despite having only two bartenders... More

There may not be a better place to get a pint in San Fran. Tons of options, and prices are great. Good atmosphere, friendly folks. My kind of place.

We were staying close by on a road trip holiday that started in SF and checked this place out well in advance. I have to say that of all the places that we visited on our 1500 mile trip this place was by far the most memorable. It's got such a great vibe, the staff and service was second to... More

The Toronado is a great locals place, a great after work place and where draft is king! Cash only! Anthony Bourdain visited here and loved this place, and you will too!

From a San Franciscan that's been here a half dozen times. This is a dirty tourist trap with a good selection of beer on top but literally nothing else going for it. The staff are a bunch of racist, sexist trolls that delight in pissing off customers because you don't look or talk like they want you to. There's so... More

A local introduced me to Toronado and that's probably on oft repeated story. When in the Haight and you're thirsty I do advise a pit stop here. First, bring cash. It's the only payment they take. Second, be prepared for busy and slightly gruff bartenders. Third, crane your neck upwards as you enter to take stock of the wide range... More

I got it from the first sight of a "cash only" sign. Really? Minimal beer menu of forgettable brands. No beer for you! If this spot builds its reputation for rude bartenders, then they need to spend money on acting classes. That or spend time in a Boston or NYC local bar and LEARN!!! Underdone. Overpriced mediocre brews. No Oskar... More

Yes...it is a dive...and that is a good thing. Bartender was gruff. Regulars were friendly. Beer menu was vast and very good. And they appear to always have some Pliney on tap and in the bottle so that was much appreciated for this East Coast traveler. A craft beer lovers must visit spot. And if you need something to eat... I visited many, many years ago and felt way overdue for a return visit. How can you not love a place that has cheap beer on tap and they allow you to bring in food from the outside! They do have bottled beer, but the main attraction is their large selection of beers on tap. The bartender took the time... More

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighborhood Profile
Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighborhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
