The library has lots of good librarians to help you, nice meeting spaces, and a small auditorium for some events. I live in San Francisco so I remember the old library and this one is relatively new and they try hard. However the homeless problem is en masse in the library and the area. I would say questionable to go... More

Great library, huge selection of books, videos, and more. If they don't have it you can get it sent over. Bathrooms however are a different story. Lots of homeless hang out in there and pick fights. Basically only use it if you have to. Outside of that, great library with lots of classes, rental spaces for local organization and friendly... More

This is a beautiful and modern library. Lots of places and spaces to study. There are wonderful archives and exhibitions on the top floors and there is a cute little store with very reasonably priced books at different entrances.

The San Francisco Library System has the coolest list of free events! Sometimes, as a tourist, you can just be 'done' with all the 'must see' places in a city and just want a more local experience. Online guides to the events of the San Francisco Library System are full of free lectures, music, one evening classes, etc. A fun... More

I have super warm memories growing up and using this Library. What a Blessing to have such a rich Library that's free to everyone. The building is lovely and spacious.

It's an OK library. There is only one bathroom available that I know of. It was fine this time, but when I've used it before it has been in desperate need of cleaning.

The city has a homeless problem, and it is very visibly evident in the library. Books are urinated on, only one bathroom is available, and often the eccentrics of the space can make getting work done a dicey proposition.

1. Large collection of books - old and new ones. 2. A number of friendly and helpful staff. There are also a number who are rude and unhelpful. 3. Can be dirty and clean at times. 4. Restroom is smelly even if there is a maintenance person. I think he/she uses a mop that ought to be thrown already. Get... More

Staying in Civic Center

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
