It's not really a place. It's a transport option. But, it looks great! At night, the lights are cool.

Make sure you have $5.00 cash to pay the toll... otherwise you will be mailed a bill for more than 3 times the fee... Great views! Depending on traffic it could take 1 - 2 hours to cross...

This was fun to drive over - and a little scary too thinking of the big earthquake that took part of it down! We rode out to Treasure Island. Double decker which you don't see just everywhere.

Nothing really special about this highway on the waters of the Bay Area, taking large amounts of cars back and forth from the east part of the bay to the west part.

It was fun going under it with the boat tour. Pretty interesting in all the different elements that come together to build it. It's also nice at night for pictures.

Visible from many areas of the city it is a spectacular and lengthy construct. It is particularly attractive when illuminated from dusk. Our first glimpse of it was on our first morning in the city, riding the Powell-Hyde cable car south, espying it at a...More

Wait in line for 40min with high Californian teenagers to pay $6 cash for the pleasure of entering a city that reeks of urine. Couldn't see anything due to smoke/smog.

Should you be up to walking the bridge it would be a great experience on a lovely sunny day . We choose to catch the bus back from Sausalito which dropped us off down San Frisco after seeing all the wonderful architecture.

Driving Directions from SF to Yosemite and back to Cambria (6 Replies)
We are arriving in San Francisco third week of May. Are the directions below the best way to get to Yosemite? San Francisco Bay Bridge to the MacArthur Freeway (580) toward Hayward through Livermore to the Northern Yosemite Highway (120), after Tracy but before Manteca, that goes into The Park. Also, please advise on best directions from Yosemite to Cambria (near Hearst Castle on Hwy 1). Thank you!

That's the route I would take to Yosemite from SF. Depending on the time of day, I may take the 24 after the Bay Bridge to Walnut Creek and then 680 south to 580 east. As for going to Cambria afterward. Take 680 south at Dublin to San Jose rather than crossing the Bay again before heading south. Depending on how scenic you want your drive to be, from San Jose you can take 101 all the way to the 46 (faster) or you can go through Monterey and take Hwy 1 south to Cambria (scenic).
