A hidden gem in San Francisco. Did this as part of a day walking round SF. It is a place the locals go to work out. Steep steps but what a view and surrounded by beautiful houses and gardens. Worth doing but you need to be fit.

This is a fun set of stairs to climb. You will get views of the bay, see an SF heart, and at the top is billionaire's row. Depending on when you go you will see exercise classes going on or just folks taking pictures because the views are awesome. Right near the Presidio and near the Palace of Fine Arts. If you like looking at expensive homes this is a good place to do that.

Our daughter who lives in lower Pac Heights said this was a popular walk for locals. What she failed to mention was how steep the steps were and why they were so popular. Well, we survived and took our time enjoying the view and taking several pics along the way. The view was worth the effort and we paced ourselves moving aside frequently for the fitness obsessed. The steps are steep, they are scenic, and worth doing.

Returned to San Francisco and delighted to find the Lyon Street Steps available for trekking up and down. This is OFF the beaten path and known to locals. Arrived as the fog still hide the Golden Gate bridge from view. Up and down several times. Quite a workout. Enjoy!

Lyon Street Steps is my favorite spot in Pacific Heights. After living in the neighborhood for more than 25 years and countless walks to the steps, its magic on me has not waned. You will not see Golden Gate bridge from here but the view of the Palace of Fine Arts and Alcatraz is unparalleled. There is a continuation on Vallejo but the steps are narrower, steeper and a lot less celebrated except by fitness enthusiasts. Many Bay Area residents bring their guests here and you can see some tourists on their own. But mostly, joggers run up and down the steps early morning and late afternoon. The best time to visit is when the cherry trees that line up the steps blossom. With climate change, it is hard to predict exactly when they would bloom. It could be late February or anytime in March, and it lasts for only a few days. A lot of people are surprised that there is a mansion adjacent the steps. The current owner is Senator Feinstein. Other notables on this block called Gold Coast or billionaires row is the yellow mansion of the Getty's where President Obama used to visit, and Oracle's Larry Ellison's modern big house. If you feel like communing with nature, the east gate of Presidio is just here. This location has everything. What more could you ask for?

We walked down Lyon Street from our hotel on California Street. We walked to the to the Palace of Fine Arts and then back up. There are stopping points along the way to catch your breath. Young people are running them but it was not too congested. Loved seeing Dianne Feinstein's house, the Immigrant Heart, and views of Alcatraz as well as the beautiful dome of the Palace of Fine Arts!

Many people seem to run up and down these steps for exercise. I'm not that energetic. I came for the stunning view and walked down the steps. At the bottom of the flight is a heart shaped sculpture that is beautiful. A walk down the steps, along Lyon Street, around the Palace of Fine Arts, will lead you to the water and Marina Green.
