Wonderful bookstore - a fixture in Richmond since 1967. Has an annex a few doors down too. A treasure hunt of a bookstore - leave lots of time to linger!

An siopa go deo. Leathcheann Charlie Byrne sa Ghaillimh. Meascán deas de leabhair nua agus de sheanleabhair. Tá foireann an tsiopa eolach agus cabhrach. Cúpla caife deas in aice lámha. Is fiú go mór cuairt a thabhairt ar an siopa leabhar álainn glas seo i gcathair San Francisco i gCalifornia. Agus bhi dha leabhar le Mairtin O Cadhain acu!

Two great book shops side by side. One has mostly new books of every conceivable type , including newly read best sellers for half price.
The other has soft cover books on all subjects easy to find by author. Also DVD's , vinyl records , audio books and Blue Ray.
There are not many of these shops around and these are gems!!

You might get a taste of the discourteous and rude service San Francisco is increasingly becoming known for. There's a male 6ft staff who just ruined my impressions of their reviews upon my visit today. The less you interact with service staff, the better off you will be here.

This is a review for Green Apple Books on the Park, their location near Golden Gate Park.
I walked in, and the white girl at the register rudely BARKED, "HEY! GO BACK THERE and READ THE SIGN!" I was hurt and shocked at the curt, condescending tone of her voice. WTF? This is one of the first days non-essential businesses were open, and I wasn't familiar with any requirement that we had to READ A SIGN and dispense some hand sanitizer on the table in front before going further into the store. It was her crude, disgusted tone that was the problem. Surely there were plenty of others who walked in without using the hand sanitizer, and she must've just let them go or told them warmly and politely to use the hand sanitizer. What is it about ME that made that girl so disgusted, like it was filth walking in?
I'm Asian. And not just any Asian, but apparently, out of the corner of her eye, I was the most disgusting and lowly of Asians - probably poor, uneducated, and fresh-off-the-boat in her mind, and had no business wandering into her precious, pretentious bookstore. Excuse me, I'm probably millions of times more American, well-read, cerebral, and educated than she is. I'm not sure where the disgust and assumption I shouldn't be there came from. Can she be so dumb she thought I carried coronavirus? The bullying was absolutely unacceptable.
And what's worse is that I've been a fan of Green Apple Books since my teens in SF. I'm more of a hardcore reader than they are. Can they not see it?
Of course, I'm never going back there again, or to their other location. They've shown they look down on me, stereotype me, see me as filth, don't think I should be there, and definitely don't value my business.
Take a stand against anti-Asian coronavirus discrimination, and boycott Green Apple Books. Thank you.

A long walk on a very hot day from Nob Hill was rewarded by a visit to San Francisco's best bookstore. Bookstores located near University campuses generally have good secondhand stocks and The Green Apple is no exception: the Philosophy, History and Art and Design sections in the second hand store were very interesting. Note: Green Apple has two stores in the same street, one for new books and another for used. There is a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere which is distinctly absent from San Francisco's other notable bookstore, City Lights.
Enjoy a leisurely browse and visit some of the other interesting stores and boutiques in the vicinity.

My favourite bookstore in SF - I can't articulate how much I love this place. If you are looking for a neighborhood, old-school bookstore vibe, a few other bookstores also offer that. What makes Green Apple stand out is its staff recommendations and reviews. I discovered so many writers, books, and music at this place. If I can live here, I would! ;)

I visited this shop on the basis of other reviews, and if your looking for a good range of well priced new and second hand cookbooks I'd suggest adding this bookshop to your travel itinerary. I've rated it Average because there isn't a Good option and I wouldn't rate the bookshop as Very Good based on the experience of others nationally and internationally. The bookshop has a range of books on a lot of different topics, and although after spending an hour in the store and walking away empty handed, that may be because I already have a lot of books so am generally on the look out for something different.

Our next destination was Green Apple Books on Clement St. I try to visit a bookstore anywhere we go and I had added this stop early on. I later found a Groupon for $20 for $40, a rarity for a bookstore, I was quite pleased.
Green Apple Books is a great used bookstore with an extensive inventory. I rarely find a bookstore with more chess books than I own, but this was a pleasant exception. I bought three books and could have spent many hours browsing the stacks; maybe next trip.
