The event was great, but my knee and bad back can no longer handle the hills. Good food, good music, and lots of great vendors! The folks there for the jazz festival were a few older folks, like myself and friend. The young “hipsters” have taken over the area and were only interested in taking selfies and not the music. The old Marcus Book Store is now some bougie hair salon. In my opinion, the Fillmore District is no longer the cool jazz and blues area, so it should be moved to a park.

Fun place to shop and eat. Quirky shops, unique shops, upscale designer shops, mom and pop shops - they got it all. And many wonderful places to eat as well. We go each year at Christmas as a "girls day". Shopping, browsing, a yummie lunch. It just wouldn't seem like the holidays without a trip to Filmore street. But it's a great place year round too!

Jack's Boom Boom room still has hot music. Marcus Books is, sadly, gone. The posh boutiques of Pacific Heights lead to Geary Blvd. and the Jazz district. Explore!

We kept hearing how great Fillmore Street was to visit and decided to walk back to Union Street one afternoon after visiting the Painted Ladies/Alamo Square. We walked along Steiner up to Fillmore and the part where Fillmore crosses Turk near the Western Addition felt uncomfortable for me to say the least. I did not feel safe and wanted to get to a different part of town as quickly as possible. Unfortunately to avoid the block of Fillmore that I wasn't feeling good about, we walked sideways and got to Laguna and Turk and that got worse. I'm guessing the better part of it is up toward Jackson and Union Streets but we didn't want to spend any further time there. If someone could put the cross streets for the best shops for future reference that would be helpful, as we could not find the good shops everyone refers to.

A fun little detour from the typical tourist haunts, lots of locals strolling through the boutiques and fun little places (including La Mediterranee, to eat. Designer shops mingle with thrift stores and there's plenty of juice bars and coffee shops to keep you hydrated for the hilly stroll.

There are two quite different aspects of "The Fillmore"--- that above and that below California Street. Above is more trendy, while below is the "Harlem of the West" from the Fillmore Jazz Era. The #22 MUNI bus runs the full length of Fillmore Street in both directions and then some. Plenty of good food along the way, especially Sushi at TEN-ICHI (2235 Fillmore Street)...sit at the bar and ask for Steve or Ken and tell them I sent you.

Start from downtown SF and drive towards the Marina. Besides the shops you'll get to experience one SF's iconic hills and anincredibly scenic outlook in the process. You'll know you're at the top when you feel like the earth has been pulled out from under you. Just keep going . . . . .

Known for some of the best clothing boutiques in the city. Also some very good restaurants, craft stores and housewares stores in the area.

Forget the stores in Union Square I found the best. Fabulous neighbour hood in Pacific heights with wonderful individual shops, fabulous bars and eating places, so cool you won't want to leave and you can buy that something special you won't find everywhere. The place has a laid back really wonderful feel about it.

Shops are far more interesting than at Union Street (not to be confused with Union Square) but that's my take others may think otherwise.

Fillmore is not far from Japantown and has history of Jazz that stretches back to the 1940s and 1950s when greats like Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and others played at the clubs. Its a diverse area that is still known for its jazz clubs as well its nightlife.
