Marie lives in the area so her information was relevant, timely, interesting and informative. The first part of the walk possibly burned enough calories to justify the later calories. . .don't I wish! We sampled tacos, pizza, California cheese, gelato, tea, oatmeal cookie, and gourmet meats. Marie is an excellent tour guide and answered questions quickly. This is my second... More

As a person who loves Asian culture (especially the food) this tour sounded like my heaven, and it was. Ahmet, our tour guide, held the tour with just a very nice Swedish couple and I, and he met us with fresh cookies, which aren't normally a part of the tour! We got to learn all about a beautiful part of... More

Perhaps I was expecting too much after I read the description: "Seven Stops with Generous Tastings at Each (You'll have goodies for later!)" We did learn a lot about chocolate, it's history and how it is made. We did have several bits of chocolate to taste at each location, usually squares about an inch by an inch or less, or... More

Our tour was of Russian Hill part of San Francisco. We went to little known places that were full of background history. Provided with a lot of food so come very hungry! Marie was our knowledgable and entertaining tour guide.

I never met anyone who enjoyed their work as much as Nicole does on the Hayes Valley Gourmet Walks Food tour. Consequently she makes everyone else enjoy it equally. Her passion is contagious and her knowledge of the area and the food is remarkable. It was truly a unique experience - wonderful and delicious!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I did the Hayes Valley tour with Nicole . Nicole was so passionate about food and she engaged everyone. Also, she gave us a history of the area. She is so amazing and energetic. The food was excellent.

Ahmet was a wonderful and very knowledgeable tour guide. I thoroughly enjoyed the Ultra Chocolate Tour although be warned, there is such a thing as too much chocolate, so save some appetite for the wine and chocolate pairing at the end of the tour!

This gourmet chocolate tour makes seven stops, each one interesting. Marie, our tour guide, explained how chocolate is made and discussed current efforts to ensure a fairer return for the growers. Then she pulled out a map showing where abandoned ships were scuttled during the gold rush. Fill was dumped on top and buildings went up - on Market and... More

I arranged a gourmet walking tour of the Hayes Valley for a group of locals. We all had a great time, and everyone raved about our guide, Nicole -- she was wonderful! My husband was particularly impressed with her knowledge of the area. He spends a lot of time in Hayes Valley, and was surprised at how much more she... More

Staying in Financial District

Neighborhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
