I went to San Francisco by myself and basically stayed in the castro. I stumbled upon Badlands because I met a few people at The Q. They said that Badlands was the place to dance. The line was long but it went quick. The music is current music, top 20, and there is a large mix of people. It doesn't... More

we loved the facts that: music not too loud, we could speak, enough people not too much, cheap drinks, goodlooking gogo dancers

Nice neighborhood dance club. Very well-lit and uplifting dancing area. Bartenders are friendly but drinks are sort of diluted. But this may not be a bad thing, as you can keep sipping without getting drunk. Music is kind of mix of upbeat pops. Don't expect trance and heavy house. Safe and sane are pretty much the words I give, but... More

Fun night dancing with some folks I met at a conference I attended. Great mix of music from all eras. Dance floor filled up very quickly.

This place has a pretty good atmosphere, friendly staff but the crowd doesn't really start going until late... Drinks are made well, and are reasonably priced.

Modern but still welcoming and not pretentious (as many modern gay bars have become). Not over expensive, nice mixed ages and types of men and, thankfully, not too many hetrosexuals

We visited from the UK in as part of our West Coast tour, Great cocktails. lots of boys/men running around and trying to out bust eachother on the dancefloor! Made for a great night sitting at the bar and watching everyone. No dresscode.

If you want a fun filled dance party, head on over to Badlands. It is a gay club, but you'll have a good time no matter your orientation. Just a heads up, the signs male/female are clearly optional on the restroom door. So, be prepared for that.

Fun nightclub - great music/videos - lots to see and lots to drink! Staff were super friendly, and was a great place to meet up with friends and have a good night out.

Staying in The Castro

Neighborhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighborhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighborhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theaters and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
