During our tour of the city the guide brought us by to see the City Hall building. What a really nice government building. The front view is beautiful with it's tree lined walkway leading up to the building. Really worth seeing.

in 30 minutes, there were at least 3 beautiful couples having their pictures taken inside. Marilyn Monroe's marriage license on display. Great way to spend a few minutes before the far eastern museum opens.

We did the 10am free tour which was brilliant. Our tour guide was a retired San Fran city hall employee so was so knowledgable and his passion for the city hall really showed. So touched by the way he spoke about Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone. I was honoured to be able to see and hear all about the City... More

The city hall dome was modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and taller than the U.S. Capitol dome. It's where Marilyn Monroe and Joe Di Maggio got married. It's where Mayor Moscone and a gay rights activist were killed. You can also people watch especially on Friday as lots of couples get married below the dome every 10 minutes... More

Beautiful from afar and still better inside. No wonder a lot of wedding pictorials are done here. The staircase is so grand and so is the ceiling. I plan to come back to take the tour. I can't do both at the same time. Otherwise, i won't be able to absorb what the tour guide is saying. I enjoyed the... More

The city hall tour is free but you can tip. Interesting information and great artifacts to see. Need to check times online for the day you want to go. There are elevators if the stairs are too many for you. Educational.

There are not many city halls I would write home about but San Francisco's is really beautiful. I have been here a few times and any given moment there may be several weddings being photographed during the day. I can't speak for year round but it was lit up this trip in red, white, and blue lights and was so... More

Dropped by this building just to see the rotunda. Cool to walk around seeing weddings taking place (avg 38 per day) and brides being photographed. OK to wander on your own, but if have time take free docent led tour. Our guide Rich was great. He had worked city government many years and returned after retirement to volunteer. His love... More

Staying in Civic Center

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
