Beautiful views and walk through private gardens. We took the bus up to Coit tower and walked down. You end up at the bottom by Levi's square.

Considerable workout. For those that can handle it, it's awesome. A real sense of ackomplishment. No children, no over weight people. Coit Tower is one of the icons of the city and this is the most direct route from the ferry.

Try going upwards only if you are reasonably fit, otherwise you can take uber to coit tower and walk downwards from there. The greenery is beautiful and so are the views of the bay from some parts of the steps. One can imagine that the...More

We just happened to come to the Filbert Steps. Very unique and interesting that there are houses that are found part way down the stairs. Another piece of the San Fran uniqueness.

We walked up the steps. We walked down the steps. Easier descending, I must say. Beautiful sights, flowering plants, beautiful architecture, secluded homes, lovely gardens, and we could hear the famous parrots! We walked up the Greenwich steps, saw lovely gardens and yards decorated with...More

We are staying off of Filbert and are only a few minutes from Coit Tower (walking) on the opposite side of the hill. We walked up our side and got directions for the steps from an employee. The walk down was beautiful and not difficult....More

Do not drive here. There is no parking. This is one of those great little hidden gems. If you have a couple hours to explore the city you should give this some time. I always feel that I'm invading peoples privacy but the owners were...More

We took the 39-Coit bus from the bus stop opposite Pier 39 up to the Coit Tower and walked down the steps (which we very glad of as it was a hot day). Pretty area and you get to see a bit of residential hill...More

SF is full of streets that due to steep topography become only stairs. Filbert St is my 2nd favorite after Macondray Lane. (Mainly for the special emotions the Lane has for me as a SF Native and its connection to the Tales of the City...More

I found this little gem by accident, trying to get to Coit Tower on foot. What a beautiful discovery! What a great way to get to the top, much more beautiful than the traditional steps on the other side.

North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds
of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian
ristorante come together to create the charming
neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds
for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North
Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always
suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in
the city exude as much European charm and style.

Not sure what the address is but if you go to Coit Tower, both sets of stairs are on the street just below I believe. Since that is well known it will be easy to find and then you can ask someone if needed. Also if you are... More

The restaurant changed hands (don't know when) and became the Dalla Torre. The Dalla Torre closed in 2006 and the site was converted to a private residence.
