We have attended several performances at the San Francisco Symphony, but our favorite to date is the symphonic performance of the score to the first Star Wars movie. Though the actors and the special effects have aged, the music has not. It is just as...More

The reign of MTT is coming to a close... Don't miss seeing him on the podium... He does what you hope from any great conductor; he brings the music sound new and urgent.

Michael Tilson Thomas is retiring in 2019. He is my all-time favorite conductor. I have been to many concerts at the SF Symphony. The most recent, January, was Bernstein's Candide which was positively transporting. We had back of the orchestra seats which were great. Tip:...More

My wife and I enjoyed a performance of Mozart and Mahler. We are both musicians and music teachers, and are hard to impress. We were enthralled with the delicacy, power, and nuance of the playing by this ensemble, especially on such a wide-ranging program. MTT...More

Amazing acoustics and a world class symphony orchestra. But people do dress up in San Francisco so jeans and t-shirts will look out of place.

If you see a program that interests you, go. The orchestra is world-class. Unfortunately audiophiles find problems with the acoustics in Davies Hall, but it's OK to my uneducated ear. Hayes Street nearby is a great place for a meal or a drink.

On a whim, I decided to see what was playing on a Saturday night and ended up getting $20 front row rush tickets. The hall is beautiful and the quality of the symphony is great. I did feel a bit uncomfortable in jeans, though, when...More

Although its streets are best walked during daytime,
numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to

Dress can be casual. People wear everything from neat jeans to fancy clothes. The building, the experience and the music are so much fun, it's fine to sit anywhere. Just enjoy!

Sorry, I don't know. I'm from Australia & booked with the box office in advance so as not to miss out. However I did notice a few vacant seats the night I attended so probably no problem for a last minute ticket.
