Opera can be expensive but i was told of a way to possibly getting a cheap ticket. The management decide the day before a performance if they are to do a "Rush" and advertise this on the website (/rush). At 11 am on the day...More

When on our travels we always aim to attend an operatic presentation. Thus we were thrilled that Tosca was hosted during our time here. It was a marvellous performance, with quite an international ensemble. Impressive acoustics enhanced the soaring singing. A traditional staging, there was...More

The performances were amazing, a significant step up from any live opera I've ever seen. I would agree with the reviews complaining about the seats. They are not comfortable, and my knees touched the seat in front of us. But the theater is beautiful, and...More

This was our first visit to the San Francisco opera house and it was quite memorable. Having attended many performances at the Metropolitan Opera, we were equally entertained here. We saw Roberto Devereaux and Cav/Pag and the talent was exceptional especially the performance of Sondra...More

The San Francisco Opera is know for its great productions, but the seating is horrible as there is absolutely no leg room even for shorter people. The opera house itself is a fine neo-classical building which is worth seeing. The same is true for the...More

But also pretty boring shows. I've gone twice, and both times walked out feeling like I wasted hours of my life. Also really uncomfortable seats.

My friend and I had tickets for Wagner's The Ring. The first night the performance was just over two hours without intermission and it was physically painful to sit in the chairs that long. The seats are old and there is no lumbar support. Also...More

Very disappointing, especially after several good reviews. A third of the audience left after the intermission, many open seats. No real plot, monotonous use of historical quotes, many without context

Fabulous voices, especially the tenor. The sets added zest to the performance. I love this opera company!

San Francisco Opera (16 Replies)
I'm planning to travel to SF over the Easter weekend next year and I wondered if there would be any opera on at that time. Looking at the SF Opera website, it appears the answer is no! Can anyone tell me whether there are likely to be any performances then, or is the Opera closed during that period? I'm used to the Viennese opera which performs most nights throughout the year except in high summer but I wondered if the SFO runs different seasons. Many thanks! Rol

The SFO (not the airport but the San Francisco Opera) counts its annual season running from Sept. to July, 2006-07. In reality what that means is there is really a Fall season (Sept. - December) and Summer season (June-July).

Best seats at the San Francisco Opera (1 Replies)
We'll be in San Fran over the Oct 6-7-8 weekend and would like to attend Rigoleto. Can anyone tell me what seats to purchase? What are the best seats for the lowest price?

I am sure they have a website, with prices and a seating map. I like not to be too far up, but in the center. Orchestra seats, of course will be expensive.
