On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars."Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious pop-culture characters, including President Barack & Michelle Obama, Gangnam Style, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Queen of England, Honey Boo Boo, Governor Jerry Brown, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Hilary & Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Jackson, Adele, General David Patraeus, "50 Shades of Grey," and The San Francisco Giants.

What a show...fantastic costuming, witty script and talent all over the stage. Very glad I experienced the longest running musical comedy in the Bay Area.

I find it hard to put into words how fantastic this show is. It is definitely a must see when you are in San Francisco. We are leaving for home, Australia, today and a friend over here booked us in to see this show. I had no idea what to expect. It ran for 90 minutes non stop. The costumes,... More

I was visiting my old hometown of San Francisco and had the opportunity to see BBB again for maybe the 3 or 4th time and it's still just a laugh a minute hilarious. Very topical and funny. The costumes are great. Fun and lively 90 minute romp!

This was definitely one of the highlights of our San Francisco trip. We laughed from start to finish. The costumes and hats were totally amazing. The actors were fantastic. Don't worry if you are not from America, you will still love this show. Unfortunately, no photographs were allowed.

this kitchy fun show is more than worth the price! we loved it! I hear they change the show from time to time ... but it seemed that the costumes where pretty old now and needed some dusting. If you see this over the top show you will see what i mean ...the headpieces are so huge that they are... More

Whow what a show. Was not expecting this. SLICK MAYHEM is as good a description as I can think of. Topical, musical comedy. Performed by some very talented people. Wacky tunes with even wackier costumes. Supersize wigs to the extreme. Found this by accident, don't yous. GO BOOK IT. Great couple of hours.

This small informal theater takes the sting out of everyday culture issues and makes you laugh at the issues at hand. I am sure that the writers have a glass of wine or two as they keep the plot up to date with current events, while presenting them in a musical comedy. The outfits of the singers are outrageously funny... More

As per every other review here, awesome costumes, great singers, no script, dated jokes, not funny. The show is like the famous sports star that should have retired at the height of his/her career but keeps coming back for more, and just can't stay out of the limelight. Some parts were funny, and perhaps it could be resurrected with some... More

I booked the tickets for this online before flying to San Francisco and took in a 6pm show on Saturday. It was great fun-filled satirical musical comedy on current affairs and pop culture.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
