On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars. "Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious political and pop-culture characters including Donald and Melania Trump, Adele, Hillary & Bill Clinton, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, President Barack & Michelle Obama, Hamilton, Bernie Sanders, Sia, Taylor Swift, Vladimir Putin, Chris Christie, Barbra Streisand, Miley Cyrus, Orange is the New Black, Empire's Cookie, Oprah and the San Francisco Giants

I could not believe I had never heard of this despite many trips to SF. A colleague in New Zealand told me about the show so I thought what the hell and bought (supposedly) the best seats in the theatre (more on that later). Easily the best 90 minutes I have spent in the theatre - brilliant costuming, great use... More

This show has been running for more than 40 years and for good reason. Fun, funky, entertaining and funny. I take all of my out of town guests to it. It usually changes depending on the current events. Highly recommended if you're looking for something light hearted and fun.

I went to this show after years of wanting to go. It was great! We had seats right up front and what a blast! The costumes were amazing and the singing and band were amazing! I will be back - looking forward to taking some friends who wanted to go but were unable to attend.

I’m not sure what to make of this “variety” musical show other than to say I loved it! The current iteration (August 2016) centered around a “Dorothy” like figure from The Wizard of Oz on a quest for love. There are many snippets that I was unsure about since I’m not a native San Franciscan, but the singing and costumes... More

Thank you for your review of our "quirky" show! BBB follows Snow White around the world as she searches for her true love. Since we are such a San Francisco institution, we appeal to native Bay Area residents as well as guests from all over the world. Thank you for the tips for guest coming to future shows. We hope... I went to see this show, Saturday, November 26, 2016, the 9pm show. Everything was fine until we got to our seats. These two chairs were merely placed in the middle of the aisle with a lovely view of the pillar. Not even that, but because they threw two chairs there people kept bumping into my friend. It was obviously... More

We are so sorry to hear of your experience at the show. It is misleading to see empty seats: alas, those seats were sold, and we have to hold them for people even if they do not show up. Naturally, we cannot seat people in the aisle and not just because the Fire Marshall would never allow it! I do... More

Almost compulsory for a trip to San Francisco is a trip to BBB. Definitely book ahead to avoid box office queues and disappointment. You'll be shown right to your seat and the area I sat in offered table service - although the choice was limited and on a busy evening you may have to work hard to flag the waiter/waitress... More

Thank you for your review of Beach Blanket Babylon. Most of our seating is general admission, although we do offer reserved seating as well. This will appeal to guests who prefer to show up to the theater right before showtime. More

Crowded, good costumes, fair voices, not funny comedy-save your money-go to one of the fabulous art museums in San Francisco.

I have been many times and park a block south on the roof of the small parking garage next to the police station. Or my dt favorite, sutter-stockton garage and walk. Don't be a minute later or they won't let you in. Sooo much better than pier33 alcatraz. Definitely an insider activity. Don't need to advertise, word of mouth sold... More

We paid $25 for the rear balcony seats. It's a long wooden bench that fit 4 to 5 people on one side and 3 to 4 people on the other side of the aisle. Unfortunately, we arrived 20 minutes before show time and got the bench at the very back. We can still see the stage and the performance was... More

I've seen this show 3x now and am always amazed at the remarkable talent. These performers give 200%! My only small complaint is with the venue. Please provide comfortable chairs. When you get there an hour before the show you're sitting for 2 1/2 hours! The hard wooden chairs become miserable half way through the show and were distracting.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
