The Gregangelo museum has always been a must visit in San Francisco. A San Francisco only creation by a born and raised San Franciscan, there are a few more quintessential experiences. However, with this most recent offering, Gregangelo and team have stepped it up.
Gregangelo, an immersive visionary before the creators of certain highbrow deliberately exclusionary immersive NYC had heard the word, has always been a creative pioneer. This horrific pandemic has given him a new challenge and he has soared above and beyond the goal.
Phantasma is an event I dubiously attended because of my previous wonderful experiences at the Gregangelo Museum. I can safely say that, either because of the dearth of entertainment possibilities during the pandemic, or because necessity is the mother of invention, this event surpassed all expectations. Over the course of the 20 minute experience, we were taken from life, to death, and back to life again. 15 different entertainers engaged with us in a completely safe way, showing us the possibilities that could exist for us as we emerge from this horrific year.
Never one to shy away from the difficult questions, this event asks them of you, challenges you, makes you laugh, makes you think, all while simply walking around the outside of what appears to be a home in San Francisco.
We met death, Sheherazade, Pan, and the creepiest little girl that ever creepied. We heard music, watched a light show aerial performance, played truth or dare, contemplated our impact, and never once did I feel unsafe or at risk - emotionally OR in a Covid world.
Go once, go again.
No, I don’t have photos. I was too engaged.
