We came here specifically to see the Turner Exhibition in September. It was well laid out and interesting to see some of his works from later in his career, which are not always a big focus. The rest of the gallery was a little too contemporary for my taste. However, the gallery is very large, well lit and spacious. The... More

Whenever i visit art museum, i feel rejuvenate! This is my first time in de Young museum and i felt really happy and colorful. Make sure you visit each floors and really pay attention to all the explanations. My favorite one was art of Africa. What's your favorite? :)

We didn't have the time to actually visit the museum but a chance conversation with a couple of Canadian ladies who mentioned the view from the top of the museum building was too good to pass up. Go thought the main entrance and turn right. Go to the end of the building past the members desk & turn rleft -... More

We came here only because the admission was included with the Legion of Honor admission we bought on the same day. The exhibits didn't look too interesting to us however they had some beautiful and interesting art. The views were awesome and the architecture of the building was very interesting. Free street parking was available (on a Tues afternoon). One... More

One of the better museums of this type. Don't always visit when I am in town but it's one of the "go to" places on my list.

Even though I live 90 minutes away, my wife and I have been members at this museum for 4 years, and we often make the drive into San Francisco just to see special exhibitions at this museum. I would argue it is the best art museum in California, and one of the best in the country. If you are visiting... More

We visited the Turner exhibition and we were extremely impressed. Although the tickets are a bit pricey (particularly on the weekend), they were great value for money. There were a wide range of paintings and a number of information signs around explaining each of them. The paintings themselves were just fantastic. We also visited the Hawaiian feather exhibit (which was... More

We loved the building and enjoyed the Turner exposition very much. A pleasant surprise was to find a Hockney too.

I enjoy visiting this museum once or twice a year when it has a special exhibit that interests me. It is a museum of American art, contemporary art, textiles and costumes. In recent years it has hosted two impressionist collections on loan from the D'Orsay Museum, a Picasso collection on loan from the Picasso Museum in Paris, a Japanese wood-block... More
