GET OFF THE TOUR BUS & URBAN TREK WITH US! Urban Trek USA's - small group (maximum of 7 people)- urban trek is an EXPERIENCE better than being aboard a tour bus or shuttle. An urban trek is a sightseeing & walking tour experience where you will use the city's public transportation system and walk around and learn about the different neighborhoods, see great views around the city, and have lunch or a coffee break at the best places in the neighborhood. You will feel almost like a local San Franciscan after your urban trek. Check the customized (private) urban trek for a party of four or more.

We did a walking tour with Anton on our first day in SF and it was a fabulous way to get an overview of the history and neighbourhoods of this wonderful city. We are a family of 5 and even the kids enjoyed it...particularly learning about the gold rush and the huge fire of 1906. We also got his personal... More

When we visit new cities, we always take our first full day to walk the city to get to know its bones! This time, we decided to take a guided walking tour of San Francisco! We did not know what to expect but it was a GREAT experience even for our 14 year old son!!! Anton not only knew all... More

We had an awesome walking tour of San Francisco (Urban Trek 4) with Anton in late July 2016. Got a real feel for the history of the place and Anton's depth and breadth of knowledge was exceptional! Really liked that the size of the group was limited to a maximum of seven - saw other tours where people had to... More

My wife and I very much enjoyed our tour with Anton, visiting China Town, Little Italy, Pacific Heights and Golden Gate Bridge, augmented by historical references, demographic information, some sociology, and personal opinions about eating and drinking venues. He had lots of info in a ring-binder, if you appreciate that degree of detail. He was flexible about stopping to take... More

We (my 20 y.o. niece, 16 y.o. nephew and 56 y.o. myself) really liked the walking tour of SF with Anton. The group was small (there was one more person on the tour), Anton was a highly organized, engaging and very informative as well as helpful guide. We highly recommend his tours!

We have visited SF many times, know our way around, and thought we had seen most of the downtown area. Anton changed all that. He is knowledgeable about the history, importance, and the day to day life of the people and places we visited. His restaurant reviews were personal insights, not a canned review you get on many tours. His... More

Anton was an excellent and well informed guide. He went the extra mile, preparing diagrams and photographs to further enhance the experience. Undoubtedly one of the best walking tours we have ever been on.

It is always very convenient to have a local kind and knowledgeable guide when you want to explore a city. Anton could answer all my questions and could provide very interesting information on life in San Francisco, good restaurants, "secret places", the population, the history of San Francisco, the development of house prices and much more. I enjoyed the tour... More

There's a reason this guy is so highly rated. You hit all the major places, but Anton knows all the secret areas for photos, the best restaurants, and the most interesting tidbits of history. Definitely worth the money and time. Plus, he's friendly and organized! Furthermore, if you want to tour the city on your own, he'll give you directions... More

If you want to see the town and get great historical inputs as you walk along - this is definitely a must do. My wife and I, along with two other couples, did the Urban Trek 4. Anton took us on a five hour walking tour of town which will show you spots you would never be able to do... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
