Top ways to experience Marina District

The area

Neighborhood: Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.

We returned to the Mission District and had a great time. There is the Palace of Fine Arts. We also went to the Fort Mason Center.

Then we spent time at the Marina Green area. There are awesome views of both the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. There is also the small boat harbor.

There are interesting mansions also to see.

We came here to visit a friend's nephew who lives in a lovely apartment in the middle of this classy neighborhood. We walked to dinner at a great restaurant, admiring the street vibe. People around. Nice place on a Friday night, known for a singles scene.

Where to go? what to see? always same questions that everyone want to know when time is short and you want to see the best of such a beautiful city as San Francisco!
Since I moved here, I've had so many people visiting that I became an expert about going around the city and see the most specially with short time. SO, here I go:
If you are crossing San Francisco and have only one or two days, you will of course want to see the Golden Gate Bridge. What I suggest is to park your car somewhere around Marina District and have a walk in the beautiful Crissy Fields. There you can have a picnic and take the world famous pictures with Golden Gate Bridge View, Alcatraz and the entire Bay!
You can also, with a small nice walk, visit the Historical Presidio and the old military buildings visiting the famous Walt Disney Museum! From Marina you can also go see the World Famous Steepest street, Lombard Street which has some great view from the top of the hill. If you are tired and hungry, on Chestnut street or Union street, you can find cute little coffee shops and restaurants. Overall this neighborhood, is really great to get to see main things of the city! one main issue, especially when driving can be parking. Be careful, you can get towed really easily! When I drive or my visiting friends, the best deals in terms of location and price, we found with our phones on MonkeyParking. The spots were close and the price for the entire day were good. Otherwise you can always decide to take the famous trams around the city which are an option!
enjoy magic SF!

The Marina District is one of my favorite places in San Francisco. We like to go to Marina Green Park in the area. its nice for a walk or to fly a kite. It has awesome views of the boat harbor and of shipping activity on the bay. it is also a very good place to get a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge.

In this area also is a nice farmer's market at Fort Mason. Fort Mason also has a host of great events to go to such as wine judging and tasting, beer tasting, flower shows, and much more.

Also in this area is the Palace of Fine Arts - its a place to visit but also to take photos of.

In the area are very good restaurants. I like Greens for brunch; I like to get a window seat there for good views of Golden Gate Bridge. I also like Betelnut a lot which is more in the boutique shopping area of the marina district.

There is also good boutique shopping.

I like the Marina District with its local vibe and the unique feel of the neighborhood.

Lots of gorgeous views here ... start down by the marina - the views from the beach area to the Golden Gate Bridge were beautiful. Then walk up Baker St to the Palace of Fine Arts for another photo worthy area. The larger that life European looking palace and surrounding lagoon is popular for photo shoots. Be sure to check out the gorgeous homes along Baker St - they are all unique and beautifully landscaped. Other gorgeous homes in the area. Also, nearby at the entrance to the Presidio on Lombard St is an incredible deli that makes amazing sandwiches - Golden Gate Market!
An absolutely perfect day!

There are unique shops and interesting restaurants and cafes in this area. The heart of this is Chestnut Street, and it is near public transportation and Lombard Street. This is well worth the visit.

Some good architecture in this area, and it is fairly flat so you can wander around and maybe do a tour. The shopping street is Chestnut with bars and restaurants. High rent area.

An impressive building that’s stand high and domineering in the local area. Couldnt get in on the day we visited as a event was going on. Ideal place for a quick visit but not for any length of time. The plinths and done are very detailed and has been maintained well over the years. Only criticism was the lack of detailed information as to what it was originally built for apart from a few paragraphs on a board... perhaps there was more inside that we didn’t get to see.

The scenic Marina District, on the city’s northern shore, is known for its upbeat bars and restaurants. Fort Mason, a former military base, is an arts complex and event space. A grassy park, called Marina Green, has a running and bike path and expansive views of Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and yachts on the water. The Palace of Fine Arts, dating back to 1915, is a neoclassical landmark

Every time I come out to San Francisco I love to go down to the Marina District and run over to Chrissy Field and take the trail to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Close to the Marina is an awesome outdoor fitness center near Fort Mason. It's an unbeatable view for exercise with the bridge in the backdrop!
