45 minutes from the Golden Gate Parkway to the Embarcadero. 20 minutes by cab. Clean, comfortable, crowded on the holidays when we were there.

Perhaps if you're using these amazingly cared for and fun to use retro trams in off-peak periods, you'll have a great experience. However, we found the 'service' to be reliable early in the morning, but shocking on busy evenings. On the evening of Saturday 2nd January we waited 55 minutes at a stop. Many gave up waiting, including the elderly... More

If you're planning on taking one of the historic streetcars on the F-Market route, be sure you don't have to be anywhere at a specific time. We decided to take a streetcar from Market Street along the Embarcadero to go to Pier 33 and catch our boat to Alcatraz. We left our accommodations more than 90 minutes ahead of our... More

These old restored street cars from the early 20th century are a real part of the transit infrastructure that runs down Market Street. Yes, there are also subways and BART underground beneath the street, but they don't have the classic feel of these old streetcars, which also give you a view of the heart of the city as you pass... Spent a day just travelling around San Fran on different types of public transport. I bought a day pass that was great value and got you 24 hours unlimited use. The Market Street carriages are a great design and a really unique piece of local history. For any train/tram fan they are a must.

The cost of senior's ticket on the MUNI tram was just US$1.00 and that was not for a single trip but for four hours. FANTASTIC VALUE. The journey is somewhat slow but one gets a comprehensive view of San Francisco; Market Street anyways. It certainly beats waiting for a cable car tram for which one would have to line up... More

I love riding the historic streetcars in downtown SF. It's a little more interesting than the bus while still having the same price. It's a great way to get from Fisherman's Wharf to Union Square. It does get full frequently, but at some point, a good chunk of people get off, and then there's room to breathe again.

Parked my car and used public transpiration. To get around. Loved the F trains each one from another part of the world.

It's urban transportation in nostalgic class to hop on one of these old street cars and cruise Market Street or even vow to Fisherman's Wharf - it's a blast from the past. Plus SF has nabbed old street cars from all over. You may see one from your home town. A fun slow ride of nostalgia. ...

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
