The SS Jeremiah O'Brien is a class EC2-S-CI Liberty ship, built in just 56 days at the New England Shipbuilding Corporation in South Portland, Maine and launched on 19 June 1943. While you are at the fisherman's wharf area take time to tour the O'Brien and learn about the major role that the liberty ships played in winning World War II. It is worth the time.

Right next to Fishermans Wharf on pier 45 lies this magnificent piece of history! If you are interested, I would sure take the self-guided tour. We were lucky, because they were just putting the ship on steam, and we could visit the engine room where the steam engine got started up! Thanks to the volenteers, and the men who worked... More

This is a self-guided tour and you can take all the time you want. It's a huge Liberty ship, WWII era, with a museum and gift shop on board. There's also a submarine right next to it (also WWII), so you can take your pick or do both!! Cost is nominal ($20 for each tour). It's great to see how... More

What a great historic treasure! A great ship to visit for both adults and children. Located near famous Pier 39, the S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien will take you back in time to where the country was on pins and needles. You'll get to explore every level of this ship - including the massive engine room and the gunners on the deck.... More

Following a three week road trip around the US and a couple of days before returning to the Uk we found the SS Jeremiah O'Brien, and what a treat this was. As someone who has been lucky to visit the Normandy landing beaches of France even given tours there, finding this Liberty ship which sailed between France and the U.K.,... More

Another fantastic experience. The ship is huge and you can explore all around it.Even the deck guns are accessible and the engine room a WW2 exhibition of vehicles and other items from the War.

The kids and I were at Pier 39 and on a whim decided to go onto the Jeremiah O'Brien. I am so happy we did. It's such an interesting ship and the volunteers there have so much information and are so kind. You get some amazing views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge too. One of the men selling... SS Jeremiah O'Brien is the last unaltered Liberty ship in it's original fit-out. It is no exaggeration to say these had as much to do with the victories in the Pacific as any other ship, as well as the supplying of weapons sold to the UK and Allies throughout WWII. The self guided tour is well worth it as you... More

This visit makes one realize the sacrifices made by those women and men who sailed across the ocean to bring material to the Allied armies deployed overseas during a critical phase of the WW II. Definitely worthed to be seen.
