During my visit to San Francisco I was not planning to visit the ship. Walking in the area I decide to go and don’t regret. Really interesting and I learnt a lot about war ships. Super recommend.

My husband and I took an impromptu self-guided tour of the SS Jeremiah O'Brien on our recent trip to S.F. We were both intrigued and enlightened. The ship is liking taking a step through a time machine and the small Naval museum in the hull of the ship was extremely informative. Getting a glimpse of the living quarters helped me to form an idea of what life must have been like for the crew of this ship while out to sea.
If you have the slightest bit of interest this tour will not disappoint.

Very interesting look at a WWII war ship, the cabins, the galley, the captain’s quarters. There is a big gun on the top that kids can pretend to use. The museum holds a lot of artifacts as well.

Frankly, have not been on the Jeremiah O'Brien, but on the submarine adjacent, the SS Pampanito, which is superb! The whole area is next door to the Hyde Street Pier at Fisherman's Wharf with ships-galore to tour. Beyond awesome!

We enjoyed seeing the SS Jeremiah O'Brien in San Francisco. We've toured it before. This time due to the fire it was relocated. It was nice to see the ship again.

Close to Fisherman Wharf you may take out time to visit the Liberty Ship. This is one of the 2 ships left in the world.

There is a History museum also which is free and you can enjoy some games starting from 25 Cents.

The story of the Liberty Ships is one of huge industrial effort and about 1400 were built during the Second World War. Designed to be in effect disposable, to find one still afloat and still able to sail with her original engines was amazing. The Jeremiah O'Brien sailed to Normandy for the second time in 1994, 50 years after the first visit on D-Day in 1944. She is kept afloat and working by a team of volunteers as a historic site, memorial and young persons experience and is well worth the visit. Pretty much everything on board is as it was when she was built, so for anyone with a working knowledge of the sea and in particular maritime history, you have to go and see her.

It was interesting to visit and tour a non Navy "warship". Thus one could see how WW3 merchant Marniners lived. The ship was in god conditon. The museum areas were welll done and the forward AA gun mount could be steered!

This ship is referred to as a Liberty Ship and is the only one remaining from WW II. This ship has a lot of history and was one of over 6,900 ships used to help bring supplies to Normandy for D-day. The ship survived and has been restored. Surprisingly, it is in pretty nice shape for a ship that is this old and not in use very much. The entry fee is $20 / person but is worth it to see the history here. The Jeremiah O’Brien is located at Pier 45 and you should be prepared to climb stairs, ladders and walk a bit.
