Apart from the delightful sea lions a very tacky tourist area full of expensive rubbish. If that's your thing then great but San Francisco is a great city that has a lot to offer.

After Alcatraz visit, we walked to Pier 39 for food and a browse through the variety of shops. The area is like a small village with a carousel in it. There's also the sea lions!

Very touristy and commercial - nothing special to do just walk around the shops. Would suggest walking along the promenade is more interesting

This is a great place to stop while in the North Beach Area. We stopped here after our Alcatraz tour and it was a perfect addition to our day. We enjoyed clam chowder from The Hook. There are plenty of unique shops along with touristy spots too!

Me and my friends took the ferry and this is where it stopped. We ate lunch on the pier and spent like two hours going through shops. They have a lot to do just right their on the pier!
