Really no different from other Piers, all across America. But if you are in SF for a few days, it's great to come here for a few hours, then take the trolley all the way back to the city (other end)

Although a must see in San Francisco the place is over crowded with tourists. The game place all the way in is nice with very good service.

Chances are you've been to lots of places like this before. If you're in San Francisco, of course you have to visit Pier 39. And maybe you'll find it more extensive than the places like this you've been to before. But you'll certainly find it a lot like places you've been to before. That said, it's obligatory to wander through.... More

Great place to visit and to see the sea lions. Very touristy but fun to shop and eat. There are great views at the end of the pier.

Pier 39 is what all of the reviewers have said: crowded, a bit chaotic, commercial, etc. It is also vibrant, and is an iconic part of SF. There are live acts, shops, food, sea lions, a double-decker carousel, and tremendous views.

Spent the day there for my teenage daughters birthday. Was a great day. Had dinner on the pier at one of the restaurants. The sea lions are a good attraction also.

Pier 39 is too crowded for my liking. If you are compelled to visit it, combine it was a departure for either Angel Island or Alcatraz to make the trip to Pier 39 worth the effort. Parking is expensive,so you may want to get there via a ferry from the Ferry terminal or off a cable car.
