Beautiful short hike
May 2021 • Solo
Secluded and beautiful short hike right in the middle of San Francisco. Felt like a bit of a pilgrimage hiking up the hill with few around, and lots of birds and other wildlife chirping, although I went on a Friday morning. It’s crazy to think places like this exist in bustling San Francisco.

Fun park on the highest hill in San Francisco - also great for Easter
Apr 2019 • Friends
This is a unique park on the top of San Francisco's tallest hill. It has a very interesting history and provides majestic views of the Bay Area. After World War I, the south side of the city was being built out and the land for the park was donated to the city. A cross was erected on the top, the first one out of wood, it was burned by vandals, rebuilt, burned again, and finally built of concrete.

Now each Easter there is a lovely sunrise service that is just magical. The cross glows as the sun rises. It is an ecumenical service with song and lots of families.

The cross was deemed a violation of church and state separation in the 60s. And the ground around it, and it was auctioned off. The Armenians of San Francisco bought it, and own it as a memorial to the Armenian Genocide. The Armenians run the coffee stand on Easter. They also do a memorial service, this year on April 24, for the genocide.

So this park has a lot of things to recommend it. It is a good hike. Some bits of history. There is a bus stop at the entrance, and it has a very beautiful view.

Absolutely Breathtaking
Feb 2019 • Couples
A MUST! The hike was beautiful and the site upon approaching the top was absolutely breath taking! Definitely a place of peace upon the chaos of everyday life reminding us WHY we are to love and show kindness in the everyday circumstances!

One of my favorite San Francisco experiences
Oct 2018 • Friends
We parked near Myra Way and Dalewood (near a bus stop)walked up the mountain on a road closed to cars. It was a challenging walk up for me but well worth it. The top is the highest point in the city and has wonderful views (It is higher and nicer and less windy than Twin Peaks). The woods and flowers smelled lovely as we walked. I would recommend sticking to the road rather than taking any of the "short cuts" via slippery stairs without railings. The big cross on the top, which can be seen around the city, is a monument to the Armenian genocide. Easter morning services there must be lovely. Because it is not accessible by car it doesn't seem to be crowded or well known. But it is worth the hike up.

Great walk up to the top

Born & raised in SF but had never been there. Great short walk to the top that is very easy. You can also take alternative trails that are even better off the main path. Highly recommend that

Lovely hike and view
Jul 2018 • Couples
Holy cow, the drive up to be near the entrance was scary! We spent maybe 1-1/2 to 2 hours here on a Monday morning. It was quiet and peaceful. We only stumbled upon a few other people during our hike. This is not a difficult climb, but wear shoes with good traction. The trails can be slippery. Besides the nice views of the city, there were a few boulders, tall trees, blackberry brambles, and wild flowers.

Amazing Views
May 2018 • Friends
Mt. Davidson is a small park with an epic view of the bay, downtown, and the rest of San Francisco. Well worth it. When you are done taking in the view, take a walk through the cute neighborhood adjacent to the park.

Awesome views
Apr 2018 • Solo
Great place to hike and visit especially on a beautiful day, the climb is a short walk, dog friendly and easily accessible for the main road, be careful of the coyotes, they are not scared of humans and if you have a small dog they can run from behind and grab your dog. Once you reach the top you will see the large cross and spectacular views of San Francisco. Enjoy the sight and views.

Inspired by Armenian Monument
Oct 2017 • Friends
Friends and I chose Mount Davidson for the hike and view at the top. We were delighted to find the Armenian Monument at the top. We were grateful for the beautiful scenery and thankful for the freedom we so often take for granted.

Good place for a quiet walk & check out the views
Dec 2017 • Family
Take a walk to the top of Mount Davidson if you are in the mood for a quiet peaceful stroll to see some terrific views of San Francisco with only a few other people around. There is a huge cross at the top, which is very impressive to look at & is dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
The best way to enter is at the bus stop at the top of Myra way. The main dirt path on the way up goes through a nice wooded area that leads to a rocky trail with some wooden steps to get to the top. It is about a 10 or 15 minute walk to get there. Once you reach the top, you will be able to see the cross & you can check out the views from the cliffs & relax on one of the benches.
It is best to stay on the main trail if you are not familiar with the area, as it is very easy to get lost on the many paths & end up on the street on the other side of the Mountain. Once you are done looking around, you can take the main fire trail which is to the right side of the cross & it will loop around behind the cross & take you back down to Dalewood drive, about a half block away from where you started out. This is not really a tourist attraction, but definitely a hidden treasure in the city & one of my favorite places to take a peaceful walk.
