Step away from the hustle and bustle of the shopping areas and take a quiet stroll along this path. So pretty and serene. Highly recommend it - easy walk, can go at your own pace, nothing treachous and there are some benches to sit and enjoy the view as you walk along.

We walked part of Shore Path while waiting for the sunrise. Great early walk to do plus there were plenty of places to take pics of the sunrise and see the lobster boats go out. Some beautiful houses on the way.

Fun, never the same because of fog, boat traffic, other walkers, high or low tide. Good for round trip to get your steps in. At 9:00, you pass the yoga class. Take a picture at the tilted rock for fun

We walked this path late morning. I found it to be very beautiful and plenty of things take pictures of. DH only walked the path, where went down onto the rocks to get better pictures. There were a few benches and a small park to sit down to catch your breath.

This path along the shore downtown in Bar Harbor is a beautiful stroll. Especially in the morning when it is not that busy. Once you get to the end of the path just keep going and it will bring you back to Main Street and you can continue to explore the shops. If you are going during the summer of 2020 most places are open and it is not very crowded.

One of our favorite activities during our stay in Bar Harbor! We looked up when low tide was and arrived early to watch the shore path reveal itself. Once we were able to walk across, there was an easy two-mile hike on the island with a slightly elevated view of Bar Harbor. Highly recommend for a nice stroll!

Not sure what to do before your dinner reservation? This is an idyllic pathway to take in bar harbor. It's a little busy near the town pier but gets quiet as you move further away from town. You can see glimpses of backyards. And its perfect light at the sun is setting.

Nice oceanside walk from the town pier to Wyman Street out by the hospital and YMCA. See some of the old time cottages from an ocean side view. Make it a loop by starting out infront of the Bar Harbor inn - walk the Shore Path then walk out to Rte. 3 and turn right and walk back into town. May take you about a hour.

I love this walk. It’s just the right length and even when there are a lot of people, they are so spread out that you have times by yourself, spouse and ocean. The views and sounds are so relaxing. We usually make a loop through downtown and usually walk this at least twice during our time in Bar Harbor.

I noticed on the Bar Harbor map an arrow on Main Street that said To Shore and decided to check it out. I was expecting a beach access but what I discovered was a scenic, well maintained gravel path that runs along the shore. It is .5 miles long and is a flat and easygoing stroll along the rocky shore line. There is an area about midway through with several park benches for enjoying the beautiful scenery. There are numerous places where you can climb down to the rocky beach below for a little exploring. It was a fortuitous find to spend a few moments with nature.

Are there tours of Acadia National Park and bar harbor?
Written September 9, 2018
There is a trolley tour but if you have a car you can drive around and stop at all of the scenic lookouts and park and hike too. You can bring or rent bikes and bike the carriage trails as well.

Bar Harbor doesn't really have any sand beaches for swimming. Other than the swimming pools at the different hotels and motels in Bar Harbor, the closest beach that I saw was Sand Beach, which is about 4 miles south of Bar Harbor, just off of Park Loop Road. We were there in the 3rd week of August and the water was still pretty chilly and there weren't many people swimming.

Whats the difference between the Ocean Trail Walk and the Shore Path? Can I access the Ocean Walk near the pier?

Is there any easy (free) parking lot by the shore path? Thank!
Written August 19, 2016
There is 2 hr free parallel parking all over downtown Bar Harbor. There is also several town parking lots all off Main St. or Mt Desert street, the trouble is that the town is usually packed from mid day to late afternoon and then the dinner crowd. If you have patience, you will usually find a spot without too much effort. If you can walk 5 blocks or so from the center or town and shops, you will find more spaces. Cottage street usually is good for us to find parking. The shore path can be accessed from about 4 different streets in downtown, depending upon how long you want to walk and which direction. There is a public parking lot right by the path on I believe Albert Meadow, and also down by the town pier. Just obtain one of the many info maps before you get on the island. There are info buildings on the causeway and one downtown on the corner of Cottage street with all the menus, maps, and go to places that you would want.

Does this excursion cost anything if you just want to walk the path?
Written July 18, 2016
The shore path is free. It is not part of the national park system so it does not require a park pass. Just walk whenever you want.

Written January 30, 2015
Your option for the ferry to Nova Scotia is to board in South Portland, ME. I believe it is now called Nova Star Cruises.
