The cycling in Acadia is top notch, from the roadways and a ride up Cadillac Mountain and the many miles of fat tire riding on the carriage roads. We rent road bikes every year to do a morning ride up to the top of Cadillac. We always go just after sunrise, which is before all of the bike shops are open, so we rent the night before and return the bikes shortly after they open. There is nothing fast about the process. They always seem undermanned and super busy. So it takes about 3x longer than it feels it should. Be patient and bring coffee and your phone to pass the time. Most of the employees seem like they are high school kids, They seem to be a bit disinterested. Road bikes are a rare rental for them and it didn't seem like the staff was that knowledgeable about them. But the bikes are well maintained (the road bikes anyway) and they have some nice fancy carbon models. You can use their pedals or bring your own. I don't love that they charge us for 1.5 days if we pick them up the night before and return them early the next day (seems like we should only be charged a half day), but when your a tourist I guess you're a sitting duck and there aren't many other shops in town (for nice road bikes). But bottom line - if you are in the area for a few days, be sure to make a reservation and enjoy a great time biking in the park.

We rented from them twice this week. Great location and service. We rented “regular” mountain bikes and electric bikes. Both were excellent. They gave us prompt attention and good advice for trails.

Leaving a broken, older bike and getting fantastic, fast service at a very reasonable rate made my day! Thanks! Good old fashioned, high end service. Keep up the amazing work!

First, Bar Harbor Bikes is very busy and you should reserve a bike ahead of time, if possible. The morning we went to pick up our reserved E-Bikes, there was a line of approximately 20 people waiting to rent a bike. Secondly, do not wear sandals We saw quite a few people on the carriage trails struggling to pedal on the hills. Ok, My wife and I received Great service and very knowledgeable employees made this a very fun day in Acadia National Park. They provided a map of the carriage trails and off we went to some incredible sights. Because we had E-Bikes, the peddling up the hill were a breeze. We spent 5 1/2 hours on the Carriage Trails and we rode 34 of the 45 or so miles, with no issues. We highly recommend the E-Bikes to see as much of the Carriage Trails as possible. Enjoy the photos and hopefully it will make you want to ride the Carriage Trail

The bike was a little worn, but they made sure that it was safe and working properly. One of the guys spent extra time making sure that I'd have a smooth ride. They also offered some good recommendations for road biking in the area.
