Went during busy season and bus helped a great deal. Worth the extra time and transfers if you are going to be going somewhere that a parking lot might be full. Free, air conditioned, clean and very comfortable.

The Island Explorer bus is a good option for free transportation in and around Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. There are several bus lines and the maps and schedules are easy to read and understand. The downside to free service during a heavily populated vacation week is that buses are often full with standing room only (and sometimes there... More

This form of getting around free bus is good but some of the routes finish early so be aware otherwise you will need to have a taxi booked you also need to purchase a pass at the park office on the green cost 12$ each person but is well worth the expense the scenery is stunning all over the island

When my wife and I went to Bar Harbor everyone said you need to go to Acadia National Park. What a treat!! Never expected the beauty of it. Wow, the ride up to Cadillac Mountain was breath taking! This is a must see if traveling to Bar Harbor.

Best idea they ever came up with! Took the trolley bus everywhere while visiting Acadia. Saved us from driving around looking for parking and met fun people on the bus.

Heather rice is a great bus driver and tour guide. She is rich in stories and explanations and descriptions of the entire area. Highly recommended as a tour of the entire Acadia National Park.

There is no need to have a car in Bar Harbor. The Island Explorer bus system is free and excellent. You can get to beaches, trails, tourist attractions, nearby towns, even the airport. The bus drivers are wonderful. I don't know if they take a personality test, but it seems to me they are all witty, informative and have amazing... More

The Island Explorer is a real boon to Mount Desert Island as it reduces traffic, congestion and pollution, and also makes it possible for people to easily and freely get around to both tourist spots and for shopping. The only drawback is that it takes more time than driving on your own, but is great if you can relax and... More

We were thrilled to learn the bus stopped in front of our motel and offered free service to downtown Bar Harbor. Traffic was crazy and parking downtown near impossible. We saved ourselves all that stress by letting the competent bus driver do the driving for us. The bus goes to many places throughout the Park, but we only used the... More

This is a great way to get around the island. You can take your bike also. The busses run regular routes and give you access to all the major points in the park and then some.
