Thanks to LL Bean the Island Explorer bus takes you around the Park for free. the buses ran every half hour on all our trails. The buses are not narrated but the drivers were all very courteous and helpful. I will take this trip again were the occasion arise. While the buses are free there is a charge for you... More

This bus is a great asset to Acadia National Park - it would be challenging to make the most of the park without it. I was particularly pleased when I left my cell phone on a bus at Winter Harbor and didn't realize it until I was back at Bar Harbor. Several people - including the Downeast Windjammer Ferry folks... Buses were so useful we almost never had to drive into the park. The drivers were helpful and will almost try and accommodate anyone even if it means picking someone up who's not at an official stop or letting people off at places that aren't an official stop.

Even though we had our own car, it was so easy to get around on the Explorer and we took it every time we went to the park.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Acadia, go...do not hesitate to make plans. As a couple, with one who loved the ocean and the other who loved the mountains, Acadia was our perfect spot. We began our love affair 26 years ago. This year, after a lapse of 7 years in visiting, we returned and were reminded that... More

We had our own car in Bar Harbor, but parking downtown was difficult. Our hotel (Atlantic Oceanside) was about 0.7 mi from town. The shuttle stopped at our hotel, was only about a 13-15 minute ride to the green in town and ran every half hour until 10 PM. To go into town for boat tours and for dinner we... More

Pick up a schedule and park your car at the visitor center, use the bus and lessen the traffic and pollution on the park road. The bus goes along the same route and you don't miss out on the views. You can request a stop if you want to get off closer to a trail. I had driven around for... More

Love the conscience of a shuttle- and more so a free shuttle. Two of the four times we used it, the shuttle was late and we almost missed our prepaid reservations. My suggestion: take the shuttle an hour before your event rather than the half hour

We took the Island Explorer buses several times during our visit, and as long as you're not in too much of a hurry, it's a good option, as it might take an hour or more to get to Bar Harbor from Southwest Harbor or other outlying areas. It makes stops at quite a few designated sites, but also picks up... More
