Downeast Windjammer Cruises A morning, afternoon or sunset sail with legendary Downeast Windjammer Cruises is fun for the whole family. Each offers a leisurely sail among the island of Frenchman Bay aboard one of two historic schooners: the twin-masted *Bailey Louise Todd* and the 151-foot *Margaret Todd*, the first four-masted schooner to work New England waters in over half a century. Guests can view Acadia National Park from the sea, watch lobster men hauling their traps, see the bay's abundant wildlife, have a picnic, or just relax on the spacious decks of these historic sailing vessels. There are three trips daily, each approximately 1.5 to 2 hours long. All cruises are dog friendly. For a different adventure take a ride on one of our ferries from Bar Harbor to the other side of Acadia National Park to Schoodic.

My husband and I booked the sunset cruise to cap the end of a day of hiking in Acadia National Park. They allow you to bring food- something easy to eat like on a picnic- and beer or wine to enjoy during your sail. We...More

Looking for something to do with our dog in tow, we we’re ecstatic to find this great sunset cruise. We rode on the Bailey Todd which was much smaller but we think that was better. Nice music and a couple of hours at sea. Perfect...More

Overall, this cruise was enjoyable but my family was hoping for more. We signed up from the National Park Service website and were eager to have a ranger provide us with a tour of the park from the water. Although that did happen, it wasn’t...More

We booked the Windjammer Sunset Cruise. It was advertised for 1 1/2 ro 2 hours. They dropped the sails and were heading in after 1 hour and 15 min, so we were basically getting off the boat after no more than 1 1/2 hours, I...More

We did the sunset cruise on the smaller of the two boats. It was a really fun experience, definitely recommend it. Just a two hour cruise so not a huge time commitment. The crew was great, really knew what they were doing and very friendly....More

Well equipped and staffed boat. I unfortunately picked a day with little wind. The sails were up but nothing to catch. Staff did a good job of finding some willife and offered good commentary. The star of the show was a sailor gal in a...More

We took the 2 hour cruise and it was just the right time. A Park Ranger provided narration and she was extremely knowledgeable. It was pretty cool watching the sails be hoisted and propelling this boat with engine power!

Took in the sunset cruise and weather was awesome. There is no narration which was a huge disappointment. You basically sail out and turnaround and go back in. Some commentary on the geography and scenery and history would have made this much much better.More

Hello 117paiget, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that the sunset sail was not everything you had expected. We do offer an afternoon sail that has a park ranger from Acadia narrating the trip. Maybe that would be a better excursion for you....More

I have spent a lot of time on the water sailing large and small boats up and down the east coast of the US. As a result, I was skeptical about taking a sailing trip out of Bar Harbor with my 14 year old niece....More
