Downeast Windjammer Cruises

A morning, afternoon or sunset sail with legendary Downeast Windjammer Cruises is fun for the whole family. Each offers a leisurely sail among the island of Frenchman Bay aboard one of two historic schooners: the twin-masted *Bailey Louise Todd* and the 151-foot *Margaret Todd*, the first four-masted schooner to work New England waters in over half a century.

Guests can view Acadia National Park from the sea, watch lobster men hauling their traps, see the bay's abundant wildlife, have a picnic, or just relax on the spacious decks of these historic sailing vessels.

There are three trips daily, each approximately 1.5 to 2 hours long.

All cruises are dog friendly.

For a different adventure take a ride on one of our ferries from Bar Harbor to the other side of Acadia National Park to Schoodic.

We had a nice afternoon out on the water on this tour. We did not see a whole lot of wildlife, but it was nice to get out on the water to see things from a different perspective. We had wonderful evening weather. The crew was very friendly and professional.

Our first time in Bar Harbor, taking a sail on the Margaret Todd is a must. Beautiful ship under full sail, it was a great evening and perfect sunset. Just make sure to bring your own 'adult beverages' :)

Our group of five adults and three children had a wonderful afternoon on the water. Our naturalist was very knowledgeable and the boat was comfortable. I am sure the great weather made our cruise even better, but we all enjoyed our ride.

We went out on Margaret Todd - a beautiful 4 mast vessel. I don't sail to often and when I do it is an exciting experience. There was plenty of wind to carry the boat, there was some live music on board, we were encouraged to bring a bottle of wine for two people - all that paired with a... More

We went on the 10:00 am sail on the Margaret Todd schooner while vacationing in Bar Harbor. We loved it and found it to be very relaxing as well as informative. The captain and crew are very knowledgeable and talked about the history of the area, local wildlife and the lobster trade - all of which we really enjoyed. Frenchmans... More

We were on this evening excursion expecting a lovely and scenic tour. Instead we had to deal with a captain/owner who spent his time needlessly berating a young man over and over again. It spoiled the mood for our whole group. We were hoping to learn lots about Bar Harbor but instead it was just a boring circle with uninteresting... More

Hi BrooklynTravler2016, Thank you for reviewing us again. We apologize you did not find your trip to be within your expectations. However on the sunset cruise on July 12th, we had a disrespectful and disruptive passenger in regards to safety. All our Captains and crew take safety very seriously. When we have one passenger or a group of passengers not... More

Great fun with beautiful views of Acadia's seashores. The crew was fantastic as was Captain Steve. Having a park ranger on board was a bomus.

Wanted to get out in the water and this venture was attractive as an Acadia guide was in the boat (advertised through the NP brochure). Got to help hoist the sail which was cool. We did not see much wildlife, but it was a beautiful afternoon in the Bay and a very smooth ride (no sea sickness!). Cost was reasonable... More

If you are taking this trip to see any type of sea life, don't! The crew was very friendly and accomodating and the weather was beautiful but the cruise itself was boring. Our trip had a park ranger as a guest speaker. Although he was very knowledgeable, he never stopped talking. Maybe just some sea music would be better.

The cruise through Frenchman's Bay was great. The captain was excellent in pointing out the wildlife such as bald eagles, porpoise, etc. and the history of the area's exploration in the 1600's. An added benefit was the addition to the cruise of one of the Rangers from Acadia National Park who provided a very good narrative on the park which... More
