My husband and I booked the Sunset Windjammer Cruise online for the fall of 2021. Staff was friendly and the boat sailed on time. All areas of the ship were clean and appeared to be well maintained. It was extra special for children to be able to assist with the raising of the sails. That being said, the categorization of this trip as a sunset cruise was a stretch. The boat moves out into the harbor but never leaves the actual inlet of Bar Harbor. You can see the same sunset from shore which is not saying much since the boat is always what seems to be less than 1/2 mile from shore. For animal watching, we saw one dolphin in the water. Overall, nice entertainment for children but I would absolutely not recommend this for adults without children. It is not a romantic or scenic experience. The boat is also crowded.

While your description is mostly accurate, we respectfully disagree with a few points. All of our media - brochures and website - specify that our schooner remains in the bay. Since the actual definition of cruising is "sailing about in an area without a precise destination, especially for pleasure," we feel that our terminology is an apt description. Granted, you can see the sunset from the shore as well, but the term "sunset cruise" is referring to the time of day that we sail rather than implying that you can only see the sunset from the boat. Naturally, we are unable to control the variety and quantity of wildlife that can be viewed during any particular sail; however, you are quite fortunate to have seen a dolphin, as that is a rare sighting. Finally, contrary to your opinion, our excursions are mostly popular with adults although, as you noted, children certainly enjoy it as well. Regardless, thank you for your review.

A repeat trip with family and friends. We love the water, the schooners, sunset and beautiful scenery. This captures it all. Best to do this when there is wind so you drift around the harbor. Without wind you are taken away from shore and gently bob in the same place. Both are lovely.

We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your sail. However, our brochures and website do specify that our schooner remains in the bay, and sails on a moving boat involving wind does define sailing. It's impossible to depart from and return to the dock without engaging the motor; it's simply not safe to begin sailing in those circumstances. We apologize that your expectations were not met.

I took the sunset cruise as a solo person and did not feel uncomfortable at all. People tend to think these things are all about romance but that is not the case. Everyone I think enjoyed themselves and interacting with each other. This was one of the most relaxing excursions I have been on. Nothing felt rushed and I have fallen in love with yet another type of sailing. The captain was very informed as was the crew. Passengers got to help pull the sails up and we had a guy wandering around the boat playing songs and singing with and for us. No one can resist the Bom, Bom, Bom of Sweet Caroline. lol The other thing I liked about this tour was that you could just sit and relax and watch the water and the beauty around you. It was a great unwind to what had been a busy day for me.

We enjoyed the Sunset Sail but I guess we expected more. It was fun to see the crew hoist the sails but other than that, it was just a short cruise around the harbor.
