Every bit of this trail is spectacular, and you can do as little or as much of it as you want. There are many side trails down to the water along the way to explore, and it's a great place to just find a rock and stare at the water. In my opinion, this is a must do if you're in the area.

The Ocean Trail is an easy walk along the Loop Road in Acadia National Park. There is opportunity to walk down to beaches, rock outcrop, and places to see the waves crash into the rocks, including the "Thunder Hole".

We got there around 8am on a Monday In early October, there was plenty of parking available in sand beach. When we walked the path around 12 pm, it was crowded. We walked to the shore to see the rocky shoreline, thunder hole didn’t make munch sound, but the shore line was beautiful! We had picnic lunch in sand beach. It was a beautiful day!

Beautiful trail along the rocky coastline. It is an easy walk but make sure that you go down off the trail and explore along the rocks as this is the best part. We parked at Sands Beach (get there before 8:30 am in September and probably earlier in high season) and walked to Otter Cliffs and back - great scenery and pictures if you go out on the rocks!

Wow! We went on one day and it was super foggy, so we went back the following day.
I'm so glad that we did--absolutely breathtaking!

This is an easy walk but you can go up and down on large rocks to get closer to the water and make it a little more challenging. It is pretty crowded but spots with room to pass at your own pace.
Try to do Thunder Hole when it is close to high tide, or else there is no "thunder". Make sure to include Sandy Beach as part of your experience.

Go at sunrise or early morning to beat the traffic and if you are driving and not taking the shuttle you need to go early for parking. Nice easy hike- we had the bus drop us at Otters point and walked back to Sandy Beach - also if you can try to go when the tide is coming in if you want to experience Thunder Hole - we missed it

This trail is one of the best views in the world that you will ever see. Just be aware that it can get very crowded

The ocean trail is crowded and boring, BUT if you get OFF the trail and go down to the rocks via the many access points, it's dramatic and fun. We did most of the "trail" by walking over the rocks and stopping every 100 yards or so to take in the view.

We were hoping for seascapes and some isolation from traffic. Turned back after 30 minutes. Like walking on a sidewalk. Lots of people and road traffic. Doubled back to Sand Beach and hiked up to Great Head Loop.. Great Head is the better choice.
