About
Kō Hana Distillers is Hawai'i's first agricole rum distillery. We look forward to showing you our rich history through sight and taste. We hand-harvest throughout the year and press the cane to juice right at the distillery. No molasses or refined sugar in anything we do as we are a true farm-to-bottle rum distillery like no other in Hawaii. Started as a conservation farm in 2008, Kō Hana quickly became the largest conservator of native Hawaiian sugarcane in the world with over 30 named varieties each genetically tested for authenticity. We grow only heirloom varieties of sugarcane brought to Hawaii by Polynesian voyagers 1,000 years ago.

    Informative tour
We took the Ko Hana distillery tour. Our tour guide was very informative and we enjoyed learning how the rum is made and how it's stored. When we got to the rum tasting, we quickly realized that this is a very unique rum. Some tasted good, and some were clearly meant for mixing rather than sipping. The gift shop is nice and offers some pre-mixed cocktails you can buy, as well as a variety of gifts. Overall, a fun place to visit if you are looking for something different to do on Oahu.

    Great tour and tasting!
Arrived early for our tour and was shown around the showroom and their new items for this year. Toured the garden and learned about the different varieties of cane used in their production, then on to the cask room where we learned how the different woods affect the flavors. Finished up with tasting of the different varieties of rum and mixed drinks. This is our 3rd time visiting and the best so far!!

    Great experience!
Wonderful and informative tour and tasting. The first time we tasted fresh sugarcane juice, and the taste difference between the same type of rum from two sugarcane varietals was interesting and unexpected. For a couple, the best way to taste is to get one regular tasting and one tasting with the aged rums, so there are 6 different ones to taste. Highly recommended!

    Hidden gem!
Our family travels to Oahu often and we’re looking for something new and different to do on this trip. I booked a tour and we all really enjoyed it! It was fun and informative! Austin was our guide and he did a great job of being friendly and educational! We left with a couple of bottles of rum to share with our neighbors when we get home.

    Great Rum
This is the fourth tour/tasting we have done. Every time we have new guests to the islands we bring them here. They do a nice job explaining the sugar cane differences and the process of how they make their rum. The tasting is great and always buy something when there. Highly recommend this.

    Great Rum
Every time we have visitors to the islands we bring them here. Always enjoy the tour and tasting. Very informative tour of the process and the differences between sugar canes. They give you a sample of sugar cane juice at the beginning of the tour. The rum sampling is very good and seems to change just a bit each time we go. Love their aged rums.

    Fun Day Tour
Fun eco friendly distillery tour. Had a great time learning about their process at Hana Koa. If you enjoy scotch, bourbon, and whiskey style drinks you will enjoy HanaKoa Rum. Their special wood barrels used for the process is amazing and gives the rums unique flavors you won’t find in other rums. Great staff, clean facility, very educational. We had a great time.

we love to explore this wonderful island when we visit. we drove up highway 750, kunia rd., with our destination being the wahiawa botanical garden. love the red soil along this road. spotted this place and pulled in. we did not do a tour. had a very through and an enjoyable experience learning about their 35 different types of sugar cane. the employee described each of the 4 types of rum that we sampled that morning, clear to dark brown. beautiful square bottles. lots of emphasis on farm to bottle. and honouring the land. and the past. their unique way of making rum with heirloom sugar cane and distilling the juice. koa reforestation is important to this company. all very impressive. fun decor. i bought a t-shirt, a tasting glass and a thermos cup. there is an outdoor picnic area. i believe the restaurant offering was not available that day. I'm looking forward to returning on our next visit!

This experience was amazing! Due to COVID, our tour was very small and personalized. Parking was easy to find and our wait time to start the tour was very minimal. The staff members were friendly, very knowledgeable about the rum, the history of the land, the process, etc. and it was probably one of the first times during a rum tour where I felt comfortable enough to ask questions.

The tasting was great and it was so good that we immediately bought a bottle to take back to California. Even when the credit card machine was not working, the staff was able to accommodate other payment methods.

Like I said, add this to your trip itinerary, you will not be disappointed.

We purchased tickets for part of a group tour. You can learn about the special varieties of sugar cane this distillery grows and uses, see part of the equipment, and depending on the day, bottling and labeling of new rum. You also get to sample four different rums. We felt it was a good way to spend a couple hours after returning from the north shore, and the staff were knowledgable, friendly, and helpful.

We just came for the free rum tasting, LOL, but the tour was more interesting than we expected it to be! We watched as the sugar cane was mechanically peeled and pressed for a taste of fresh cane juice, which I found it to be deliciously sweet and creamy (although my partner thought it was too sweet.) Our guide took us outside to show us various types of sugar cane, then we went over to see how the rum was processed. We ended our tour by tasting different varieties of rum, including both light rum and dark rums. I am not a big “straight rum” drinker (I prefer a Mai-Tais), so they all tasted pretty strong to me (my partner enjoyed them!) We ended our tour with souvenir tasting glasses and some shopping, where bottles of rum, glassware, tee-shirts, and other items were available for purchase. If you are interested in how rum is made, or want to learn a little about Hawaiian agriculture, I highly recommend this tour!

This was a great one-hour tour of a small, local agricole rum distillery that was very informative. We got to see the types of sugar cane they grow and also taste their delicious sugar cane juice used to make their rum. The rum tasting afterwards was yummy. Our favorite was the Kokoleka (chocolate) rum. OMG! We never tasted anything like it before! VERY yummy! We also got to taste their barrel-aged honey which was the best honey we've ever tasted. (My friend bought 2 bottles!) Their rum cake was also delicious and I couldn't resist buying that for myself! Afterwards, we were given a beautiful manulele (flying bird) jigger as a souvenir. (It was the previous name of their distillery.) I will always support small businesses with quality products and I wish them much success!

Love distillery tours. Teves was outstanding in explaining the history and mission of KoHana Distillery and its relationship with local sugar cane. What made the tour the best was tasting the local aloha spirit in the “spirits”

This place was cool as heck. My partner and I took a tour here. Learning about their process and the differences in their agricole rum was so interesting. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and they were so accommodating with rescheduling our tour time after we had some car troubles. Also learned A LOT about sugar cane and the many many types. Seeing the distillery and warehouse was awesome. And no complaints about the tasting at the end of the tour. We ended up buying six bottles for ourselves and as gifts for friends and family. And I’ll definitely be ordering more in the future. Their coffee was also very delicious. Very smooth with no bitterness when prepared in a French Press. I would recommend checking this place out if you have the time!

I had a such a great time touring the distillery and having the rum tasting. Our tour guide (I don't remember her name now!...A-something??) was so knowledgeable and answered all of my group's questions and had some great anecdotes as she started working at the distillery since the Tasting Room opened. I love that they worked with lots of other local island businesses for mix use from coffee to honey to apparel. Safe to say, I went a teeny shopping spree :D They ship up to 6 bottles to your home for like $30

For the tour/tasting, we got to try native sugar cane juice, learned about the Polynesian roots, barrel types and the distilling process. Then tasted 4 different types of rum and my boyfriend did the additional tasting of the rums straight from the barrels.

This was a definite highlight for our trip and definitely worth a visit into central Oahu. Our group went to the Dole Plantation beforehand and then to Wahiawa after for saimin or guava glazed chicken!

I love a local distillery tour, so while I was in Hawaii on holiday, I decided to look into the options on Oahu. Ko Hana immediately stood out. I'm not generally into rum, but booked the tour with tasting anyway. The location was semi-remote, but easy to find. The facility was cool with a ton of shopping options. The tour was fun and informational - our guide was clearly very passionate about the rum, which made it even better.

And as someone who is pretty specifically into whisky, the rum was AMAZING. I left this tasting after spending a small fortune and nearly becoming a member of their rum club (and I'm still considering it). I absolutely recommend this experience to anyone who's into (1) Drinking alcohol (2) Hawaiian culture - the history of the sugar cane is super interesting (3) Learning about how alcohol is made.

Need to have some sort of food to soak up the alcohol. The tour is a little short but it’s a really good tour and our tour guide was great. Like any other alcoholic base tour this ends with a tasting. Basically rum shots. But unlike other tours no food is offered. They should offer crackers or sweet bread for free or offer a charcuterie for a little extra. Driving away after rum shot is dangerous. Our group all agreed we would pay a little more for a the tour to include a few juices (POG and pineapple) and couple of sodas (coke and sprite) plus a charcuterie. A premium tour if you will.
