I would have given a 5 as the show and staff were fabulous but the kalua pork came in a tiny container (about three tsp) with vinegar poured on it. I wanted to taste pork not vinegar. That sucked but all the other food was good. The show was awesome and the chief was a hoot. We got the vip seats and it was worth the $$ as the show made the event spectacular. Afterwards our car would not start and as the parking lot emptied the security guard got one of the performers to help. She and her friend tried to get it started but it was the alternator so we needed a tow. Then they kindly then gave my daughter a ride to her house so she could get her other car. It was so appreciated because we had an infant a three year only a disabled adult and three more adults sitting in a dark parking lot at 10 at night. Security stayed until the tow truck and my daughter came. They couldn’t have been nicer. And that is a 5 star rating by us.

This was our first luau (and trip to Hawaii) and it was an unforgettable experience! The performers were top knotch and the chief was hilarious. We didn't expect to laugh so much. We thought the food was tasty - especially the dessert. The setting is absolutely stunning. We appreciate that this was a family friendly show. We sat in the middle (Splash) section, which I think was a good value.

We did initially find a lower price on a discount site but called the company directly and they honored the price. We got the package including transportation which was about $18 per person roundtrip. It was a great ride - comfortable, efficient, and the driver gave a nice commentary on the way up about the areas we drove through.

Our only gripe would be that there wasn't enough time to participate in the pre-show activities and they were a little unorganized. We were a part of a large group wanting to learn how to weave headbands out of palm fronds, and instead of showing several people at a time the weaving method, the young man showed each person one by one which took too long and meant some guests didn't get a chance to try. However, the overall experience was so good that we'd gladly do it again.

Parking was $5 at Sea Life Park. Got there around 5pm to check in. The cast came at 5:30 pm and we started off the evening with complimentary Mai Tais. A beautiful stage back drop of rabbit island and sunset skies. Coconut prep demo and explanation, interactive entertainment, and "punny" jokes. Live dinner music played a few audience requests. The dancing was intimate, adrenalin pumping, and interactive fun, as they gave us a taste of Polynesia...and amazing - fire dancing! Enjoyed a memorable solo alongside couples dancing together. The audience got up a number of times for us to dance hula, clap with the Chief, and shake our hips for with the tahitian dancers. Food was brought to us due to Covid conditions - chicken, fish, kalua pig, fried noodles, sweet potato, rice, salad, pineapple sorbet, lomi salmon, and poi! Can use the drink ticket for soda, juice, wine, Kona beer, Mai tai. Wine and fruit punch available on the side. A fabulous night! Show ended around 8p. We ended the night with kid pics with the dancers as well as taking home our picture souvenir. An unforgettable night for our family and a definite must when coming to Oahu.

Our group of six booked this Luau for the Luau, dinner & interactive aspect of lei making, headband weaving & learning to hula before the show. Only if you buy the top end most expensive tickets can you do the activities. We bought 2nd level or Splash seating. The top end tickets got priority entry and a real lei with access to the bar & activities first Level 2 & 3 people were made to wait outside the gate for almost 15 minutes listening to jokes. He was funny but we were hot waiting out there. Lineups for the activities for the rest of us were so long we didn’t get to experience any of it. There were not enough activity tables or bars /bar tenders to accommodate the amount of people they book for this Luau. Then the buffet opened to priority guests first, 2nd level & then 3rd level guests. The food was very very good. Top level people had finished eating and 2nd & 3rd level people were either still in line to get food or sitting down to eat. The MC decides to do the hula lesson right then…..between narrow tables & while the rest of us were still eating our food while it was hot so we didn’t get to do that either. The actual show then started after most people had eaten. It was an excellent show. Each part told a different story of the Polynesian islands, some with humour but overall the show was excellent. Parking was $10, Luau tickets include admission to the aquarium. Overall, book just a Luau show. It’s easier.

Ka Moana Luau ended up being an average experience for my husband and I on our honeymoon. We attended another luau later on our trip in Maui which we preferred immensely. This felt a little bit like a Disney World/Disneyland type experience. You rode a bus with strangers to get there, were queued up in lines according to wrist band colors to enter the venue, and were served mediocre food in styrofoam containers. The show felt more like a caricature of Polynesian culture rather than an authentic storytelling experience. Not all luaus are like that as we found out in Maui a few days later! I just want to dispel some of the concerns from other reviewers regarding COVID precautions. We found that the staff and setup took into account masking and social distancing guidelines. If anything that has negatively impacted the experience and probably made it difficult for them eliminating the option of doing the usual buffet food service. That said, for the price we paid for VIP, we were disappointed.

Visited on re-opening night (Dec. 1 2020).

Performance: 5/5
The grounds were beautiful and the staff did their best to put on a great show. Good level of audience interaction and the dancing & other parts of the performance were entertaining and very comedic.

Food: 3/5
Buffet food and dessert were pretty decent with the exception of the fish which was dry and not tasting good.

Organization: 2/5
There was a very long line upon entry for each party to get their photos taken that would be later printed and marketed to you upon leaving.

Afterwards you are seated and according to the program description we would be called table by table for the buffet dinner. This didn’t happen and it was a free for all with a long line wrapping around with everyone getting up when they wanted. Some tables were up for seconds before I even got to the line. I paid extra for a package that was supposed to enable earlier access to the food but this didn’t happen. It took forever waiting on line and this took away from the experience.

The food buffet closed without notice during the show and I tried to get a second drink during a break in the performance but the bar also closed easily for some reason.

The photo pickup at the end of the show was a disaster and a very long line to review and purchase photos. Our package included a free photo and we were told it had to be a specific photo and we couldn’t get the cheap cardboard frame without paying extra. A very nickel and dime situation.

COVID Safety: 3/5
Tables were spaced out well and you were only seared with members of your own party. The aforementioned long buffet line lead to people waiting right next to some of the people sitting at tables in the back. Buffet food was served by the staff and seemed sanitary. Hand sanitizer was out at the beginning of the buffet, which was not a good look. The long lines for photo taking and photo pickup were not socially distanced enough. Most people wore masks throughout the night.

My first experience with a luau! Went to this event as my Go Oahu card premium event. I loved the performance and the MC's sense of humour although even with Splash seating I found it a bit hard to see around the people in front of me at times. The food was okay but not great. The cultural activities (lei-making, headband weaving, ukulele lessons...etc.) were very underwhelming, way too crowded with like twenty people at one booth and only one person to host the activity. Was especially disappointed with the "ukulele lessons" which were more just getting to hold one and then giving it back but I guess you can't expect anything more given the way the event was structured.

It rained during the evening event although the show valiantly went on and they did hand out rain ponchos which helped. I wish they could have made the eating area covered with picnic tents or something so that our food didn't get soaked.

Would recommend getting the shuttle transportation to and from the luau if you don't have a car as no buses run there when the luau ends and Uber is expensive. We took the early shuttle there so we could explore Sea Life Park before the luau which was great!

What made us book here was the amazing reviews and the awesome Groupon deal. Sadly, this was not great. It's not even "you get what you paid for." We left hungry.

At this Luau our food came in a box it was cold and not good. The portion size was something I would give to my 5 year old. The drinks were watered down and the drink line was really long. You literally have to stand in line while watching the show just to get a drink. They had another area where you can get water, punch, and dessert from a table.

They sold other drinks at the bar for $12 that looked much better than the 2 free drinks that were provided. The Luau is located inside the Sea Life Park so after you check in you have to walk through the park to get to the Luau. The walk was pretty long.

Also, they sold pictures they took of your family as you walked in for $34.00. The staff was nice and the show was good.

This has been our 3rd time to Hawaii.

*The first Luau we went to was at the Hilton Hawaiian Village it was nice but wanted to see something more authentic the next time we came back.

*Second Luau we went to was the Chiefs Luau and as of now this has been the best!

Aloha & Mahalo for leaving us your feedback here on TripAdvisor to review. We are so sorry to see you were disappointed with the experience and are always looking for ways to improve the Lūʻau. Since your review, we have updated our covid-safe buffet procedure as well as added table service to reduce the length of lines. As we continue to improve our operations while still adhering to the covid guidelines set in place by the state of Hawaiʻi, we appreciate your comments and hope the rest of your time here in Oʻahu has been filled with nothing but Aloha!

Family of 7 (4 adults, 3 kids under the age of 5). We had the “classic” seating which means the very back apparently. Seating is flat and the stage isn’t very high so we basically had to stand to be able to see the show. We eventually worked our way over to a grassy area to the left of the stage to see better. There wasn’t much interaction with the crowd as we have seen at previous luaus. The dancers were energetic but again, not much interaction with the crowd.

Food was terrible very bland and no description of what was what. There was white rice, some type of noodles, mixed vegetables and pork. Our kiddos were looking forward to see the presentation of the pig and they didn’t bother coming to the back where we were seated.

Giving two stars because the view was amazing and our tickets came with admission to the sea life park. Be warned the sea life park closes at 330p and the luau doesn’t start until 530p.

This is your typical luau. Nothing really special. And if you don't pay for the upgrade, you will feel like you are nothing special as well. We got the Splash tickets (which are not the lowest), but we had to sit in the back. The stage is not raised hardly at all so it was hard to see. They did the pig in the pit ceremony and we couldn't see a thing and they walked around with it, but not by our tables at all. There was a rude family in front of us that stood almost the whole time so we could only see the luau through her phone screen where she was recording the luau. The MC asks that you stay seated but no employees came to ask them to sit down. Their kids were standing on chairs and making it hard for anyone else to see that was on the side of them as well. Also, with covid, none of the pre-luau activities are happening. They will bring around the leaves to make your own headband, but no one came by our table so we didn't get one. One of the adults in our party did not get food until we asked for it. The food was your average luau food, nothing great. You do get to try poi and lomi lomi salmon as a sample at your table. The setting is very beautiful there and the performers were good. But they only cater to the front row (Celebrity package) when talking to them or asking for volunteers or giving free drinks to them. If I were going again, I"d pay the extra $40 to upgrade to Celebrity and get the flower lei or you will feel like a nobody stuck in the back corner.
